Polishing Compounds Since 1888

Menzerna's story began in 1888, when Friedrich Menzer founded the company in Pforzheim. Polishing pastes for precious metals were among its first products, and its early customers were mainly in the local watch and jewellery industry. As the range of the Chemische Fabrik Friedrich Menzer grew, customers from other metalworking companies followed.

Under owner and chemist Dr Walter Burkart, scientific methods were introduced into product development and application technology. As polishing became automated, Menzerna says it was one of the first suppliers of liquid polishing compounds in Germany, and products for painted surfaces became an increasingly large share of its sales. In the same period it began operating globally and exporting more than half of its production.

The site later moved to Ötigheim in the district of Rastatt, where production was modernised and the laboratory was equipped with modern measuring and preparation technology. In Menzerna's words, its business with polishes for automotive clear coats grew from humble beginnings into a mainstay of the company, and it develops its polishes for professionals in industry and trade.

About Menzerna

Menzerna is a German manufacturer of polishing compounds that has been making polishes since 1888. Friedrich Menzer founded the company in Pforzheim, where polishing pastes for precious metals were among its first products, and it is now based in Ötigheim. Today Menzerna develops and produces solid compounds, polishing emulsions, car polishes and boat polishes for industry and trade. For cars, it offers polishes for the four common polishing stages, from heavy cut compounds to finishing polishes and sealants, along with foam and lambswool pads matched to each step.

The Drivers HQ stocks Menzerna heavy cut compounds, medium cut compounds, finishing polishes and a choice of foam and wool polishing pads. The cutting range includes Heavy Cutting 400, Heavy Cut 400 Green Line, Heavy Cutting 1000 and Heavy Cutting 1100, followed by Medium Cut Polish 2000, 2200, 2400 and 2500. Final Finish 3000 refines the paint to a high gloss, while One Step Polish 3-in-1 polishes, finishes and protects with a single product. Pads include green soft cut foam pads and blue wax pads in 150mm and 95mm, plus a 150mm lambs wool cutting pad.

Menzerna makes car polishes for detailers, the motor trade and car enthusiasts, so the range suits anyone who uses a polishing machine, from a single step enhancement to a full multi stage correction. Its system works in up to four steps: a heavy cut polish for deep scratches and sanding marks, a medium cut polish for signs of use and moderate scratches, a finishing polish to remove holograms and create gloss, then a sealant to protect the paint. The pads are colour coordinated with the polish labels, which makes matching each stage simple.

Polishes Without Silicones or Fillers

Menzerna states that its polishes are made from polishing minerals and contain no silicones or fillers, so scratches are removed by smoothing the paint rather than being covered up for a while. The one exception, it says, is its sealants, which need silicones to protect the surface. The range covers every stage, from preparing the surface and cutting to hologram free finishing and sealing.

Menzerna describes Heavy Cut Compound 400 as a polish that removes scratches and creates gloss in a single step, using diminishing abrasives. The Green Line version does the same job without hazardous volatile solvents and is VOC free under DIN EN ISO 11890-2. Medium Cut Polish 2400 is suited to dry, hard and older paints, including classic cars, and to soft sticky paint. Final Finish 3000 is its classic high gloss polish for removing swirls and car wash scratches.

One Step Polish 3-in-1 polishes out sanding marks from 3000 grit, removes smears and swirls and protects the finish, and Menzerna calls it ideal for novice polishers. The pads are built around the same system: the lambswool pad is made for rotary machines and combines high abrasion with low heat build up, the soft cut foam pad works with finishing polishes to remove holograms, and the wax foam pad applies waxes and sealants.
