A car dryer pushes the water off with a strong stream of air, so the paint is barely touched after the wash. It also clears the water that hides in mirrors, badges, grilles, light surrounds and wheels and runs out later as streaks. How to choose

• Hose units: the BLO AIR-GT and AIR-RS blow through a long hose, so the unit stays put while you walk round the car.
• Handheld and battery: the BLO AIR-S and DTLR Vortex Mini are quick to pick up for wheels, grilles and motorbikes, and the DTLR needs no socket.

Good to know

• Blow out the gaps first, then the flat panels, and finish with a drying towel or a quick detailer to catch the last drops.
• Keep the nozzle a few inches off the paint, as a hard tip can mark it.
