Fabric Coatings

A fabric coating bonds a water-repellent layer to cloth seats, carpets and mats, so spills sit on top long enough to blot away instead of soaking into the foam. The range covers Autobead Fabric Coating, CarPro CQuartz Fabric 2.0 and Sonax PROFILINE Fabric Coating.

How to choose

• Coating or spray: a coating takes more prep and a cure time but is meant to last longer between applications. For a quick top-up you can repeat often, a spray from Fabric Protectants is easier.
• Soft tops: before using a coating on a convertible roof, check the product page lists soft tops, because a roof has to cope with rain and sun that seats never see.

Good to know

• Clean first: a coating seals in whatever is left on the fibres, so clean the fabric with a product from Carpet & Fabric Cleaners and let it dry completely.
• Test a hidden area for colour change, apply in light, even passes and keep off the seats for the cure time on the bottle.
• Wipe overspray off glass, plastics and leather before it cures.
