Wheel Coatings

A wheel coating is a ceramic layer made to take brake heat, so brake dust sticks less and a coated wheel usually comes clean with a Wheel Shampoo. The range covers Autobead Alloy Coating, Gyeon Q2 Rim, Tenzi R1 Rim, Infinity Wax Synergy Revolution and CarPro CQuartz DLUX.

How to choose

• How long it should last: Autobead Alloy Coating comes in 1, 3 and 5 year versions, the maker's rating with correct prep and care.
• Wheels only or wheels and trim: CarPro CQuartz DLUX also covers plastic trim; the rest are made for wheels.
• Coating or sealant: a coating needs full prep and cure time; a wheel sealant goes on after a normal wash and is easier to reapply, but wears off sooner.

Good to know

• Before coating, wash the wheel, strip iron fallout (see Iron & Fallout Removers) and wipe it down with Panel Wipe & IPA, so the coating bonds to the finish and not to grime.
• Coat with the wheels off if you can, so the barrels get done too, and let it cure for the time on the label before driving or getting it wet.
