Wheel Arch Brushes

Wheel arches collect the heaviest dirt on a car: mud, road film and grit thrown up by the tyres. An arch brush has a long handle to reach up behind the tyre and bristles firm enough to scrub the liner. There are dedicated arch brushes from Mothers and Sam's Detailing, and wheel and arch brushes from Viking, Maxshine and EZ Detail.

How to choose

  • Reach: the long-handled Mothers, Viking and Maxshine brushes get to the top of the arch with the wheel on.
  • One brush or two: the EZ Detail, Viking and Maxshine brushes also do wheels. Rinse the arch grit out before one touches a wheel face, or keep a brush for arches only.
  • Liner type: hard plastic liners take a firm scrub; the fabric liners on many newer cars fray if scrubbed hard, so let the cleaner do more of the work.

Good to know

  • Give the cleaner a minute to soften the dirt before brushing: one of our All Purpose Cleaners mixed strong does the job.
  • Do the arches and wheels before you wash the paint, because scrubbing throws dirty spray up the sides of the car.

How do you clean car wheel arches?

Do them before the paint. Spray an all purpose cleaner mixed strong, give it a minute to soften the dirt, then scrub the liner with a long-handled arch brush and rinse well. Go gently on fabric liners, which fray if scrubbed hard.
