We choose a car wax by how it goes on and what it has to sit on. ValetPro Indulgence Cream Wax is the quick carnauba option, NowRevive Carnauba Creme is a non-abrasive liquid wax that also works as a base layer, and Infinity Wax Turbo6 blends carnauba with SiO2 for longer protection.

What is the best car wax in the UK?

For an easy carnauba gloss we would pick ValetPro Indulgence, which is a spread on, wipe off cream wax. For a careful hand finish on classic or modern paint, NowRevive Carnauba Creme gives full directions and can be topped with another wax or sealant. For the longest protection, Infinity Wax Turbo6 lasts up to 6 months.

All three are liquid or cream waxes from our car waxes range. This guide covers choosing between them and applying them properly; for the bigger decision between wax, sealant and coating, read wax vs sealant vs ceramic coating.

When is a wax the right choice?

Choose a wax when you enjoy applying protection by hand and are happy to renew it, and when gloss matters as much as durability. If you want the longest gap between coats, a sealant or coating is the better fit. Wax does not remove scratches either: a product with fillers can hide light marks for a while, but taking defects out needs a polish.

Liquid, cream or paste wax: what is the difference?

The difference is mostly how the wax goes on and how long it takes to come off. A paste or hard wax comes in a tin and is worked onto a pad before it touches the paint. A liquid or cream wax comes from a bottle and spreads thinly with less effort, which suits a busy routine.

  • Cream wax: ValetPro Indulgence saves time compared with traditional hard waxes, because its creamy texture spreads on and wipes off.
  • Liquid wax polish: NowRevive Carnauba Creme is a non-abrasive liquid with carnauba and synthetic polymers, left to cure for about 5 to 10 minutes before you remove the residue.
  • Cream sealant with carnauba: Turbo6 pairs carnauba with SiO2 polymers and fillers, so it sits between a wax and a sealant.

Whichever you choose, follow that product's own cure and buffing time. A timing that suits one wax can leave another streaky or hard to remove.

How do you apply car wax by hand?

Start with clean, dry, cool paint, apply a thin coat one panel at a time with a foam or microfibre applicator, give it the cure time on its label and buff with a clean microfibre. Using more wax does not add protection; it only makes removal harder.

  1. Wash and dry the car: wax goes on clean, dry paint, so start with a full wash. Our guide on how to wash your car safely covers it.
  2. Strip old protection if needed: if you are changing products, mix 50ml to 100ml of Infinity Wax WAX OFF per litre of warm water in a sprayer, work it panel by panel with a mitt for up to 5 minutes without letting it dry, then rinse it away.
  3. Check the conditions: work in the shade on cool panels. Do not apply Carnauba Creme below 6 degrees, above 35 degrees or in direct sunlight.
  4. Apply a thin coat: put a small amount on a foam or microfibre applicator and work it in with light pressure, one panel at a time.
  5. Let it cure: follow the product. Carnauba Creme needs about 5 to 10 minutes, while ValetPro Indulgence is spread on and wiped off.
  6. Buff it off: remove the residue with a clean, soft microfibre cloth, turning it to a fresh side as it loads up.

How long should you leave wax on before buffing?

As long as its own label says, and no longer. Carnauba Creme needs about 5 to 10 minutes, while ValetPro Indulgence is spread on and wiped off. Hard wax habits, such as leaving every product to haze for a long time, can make a liquid or cream wax harder to buff, so treat each bottle on its own instructions.

Can you apply wax with a machine polisher?

Some products, yes. Turbo6 can go on by hand or by machine: machine application fills more but lasts less long, and hand application gives the best durability with a little less filling. Keep to the product's own guidance on pads and speed. Our DA polisher guide covers the machines.

Common questions

How often should you wax a car?

When the protection stops performing, which depends on the product, the weather and how the car is washed. Infinity Wax Turbo6 lasts up to 6 months; if water no longer beads and the paint feels grabby after a wash, it is time for another coat.

Can you put wax on top of another product?

It depends on the products. Carnauba Creme can be used alone or as the base for sealants and waxes; for the best results, top it with a paste wax or sealant. Check the second product's own instructions before you layer.

Does wax hide scratches?

A wax with fillers can make light marks less visible for a while, which is what Infinity Wax Turbo6 does. It does not remove them. For swirls and scratches, see compound vs polish.

Can you wax a car in the sun?

We would not. A hot panel makes wax harder to spread and buff, so avoid direct sunlight and temperatures above 35 degrees. Work in the shade, or early or late in the day.
