Screen Wash

Screen wash goes in the washer bottle, so every press of the washer jets cleans the windscreen as you drive. The screen washes here do more than a plain one: Sonax says XTREME Clear View removes oils, grime, insects and silicone films, and VP-UK says its Ceramic Washer Fluid leaves a hydrophobic coating so rain beads and runs off the glass.

How to choose

• Clean or repel: a cleaning concentrate such as Sonax XTREME Clear View keeps film and bugs off the screen. A ceramic screen wash such as VP-UK Ceramic Washer Fluid also makes water bead, so the wipers have less to do.
• How far it goes: Sonax says 25 ml makes 2.5 litres, so its 250 ml bottle gives 25 litres of washer fluid. VP-UK says to mix its fluid 1:5 for winter and 1:10 for summer.
• Concentrate: Dodo Juice Spirited Away is a concentrated screen wash too.

Good to know

• Sonax says Clear View is made for fan jet nozzles, is safe on glass, paint, rubber, LED and Xenon headlights, wraps and matte finishes, and copes with hard tap water thanks to its anti-limescale formula.

What is screen wash?

Screen wash is the cleaning fluid in a car's washer bottle. The ones here are concentrates you mix with water in the bottle, and the washer jets spray the mix on the windscreen for the wipers to clear. A detailing screen wash adds more, such as bug and film removal or a water-repellent layer.
