Paint Sealants

A paint sealant is synthetic protection: polymers or SiO2 that bond to clean paint, make water bead and help dirt rinse off at the next wash. It usually lasts longer than a wax and needs far less preparation than a ceramic coating. Ours come in three forms: rinse-on, spray, and cream or liquid.

How to choose

• Rinse-on: Stjarnagloss Glatt Rinse Aid, Shiny Garage Wet Protector and CarPro Hydro2 are sprayed on the wet car after washing and rinsed off: the quickest way to protect the whole car, wheels included.
• Spray: Autobead Spray Sealant and Stjarnagloss Parla are sprayed on and buffed off a panel at a time.
• Cream or liquid: Menzerna Power Lock and Infinity Wax Obsidian Graphene Sealant take longer to apply and suit freshly polished paint. Infinity Wax Turbo6 also has fillers that hide light swirls.
• Coated cars: Infinity Wax Synergy Vitality is made to top up a ceramic coating.

Good to know

• A sealant needs bare paint to bond: after polishing, wipe the panels with Panel Wipe & IPA to remove the polishing oils.
• Any wax goes on top of the sealant, never underneath.

Do car paint sealants work?

Yes, as long as the paint is clean when it goes on. Wash first and remove old wax and polishing oils so it can bond. After that, water beads and dirt rinses off more easily at each wash.

Is paint sealant better than wax?

It usually lasts longer and needs less work to keep topped up, especially the rinse-on and spray kinds. A carnauba car wax gives the warm, deep gloss wax is known for. You can have both, with the wax on top.
