About the range

Wet Sanding Discs

Wet sanding levels defects a compound cannot shift: orange peel, runs, dust nibs, and scratches too deep to polish out but still inside the clear coat. The range has CarPro SIC and Rupes X-Cut foam-backed discs in P1500, P2000 and P3000, in 3 and 5 inch (75 and 125mm) sizes, Colad waterproof sheets from 1000 to 3000 grit for hand sanding, and Rupes soft interface pads.

How to choose

  • Grit: lower numbers cut faster but leave deeper marks. Start at P1500 only for runs and heavy orange peel, and finish at P3000 so the compound has less to remove.
  • Size: match the disc to your backing plate; 75mm for spot repairs and curves, 125mm for flat panels.
  • Machine or hand: the discs go on a dual action sander or polisher over a soft interface pad; the Colad sheets wrap round a block for single nibs and tight spots.

Good to know

  • Sanding removes clear coat you cannot put back: measure paint thickness if you can, and mask edges and body lines, where paint is thinnest, with Masking Tapes.
  • Keep the surface wet, then remove the haze with a compound from Heavy Cut Compounds.

Is it safe to use wet and dry sandpaper on car paint?

Yes, with care and only where a compound cannot fix the defect. Use fine grits, keep the surface wet, stay within the clear coat and mask the edges, where the paint is thinnest. Every pass takes off clear coat that cannot be put back, and a compound then removes the sanding haze.
