Interface Pads

An interface pad is a soft foam layer that fits between the backing plate and a sanding disc, so the disc follows curves and body lines instead of digging in at the edge. The range is Rupes Soft Interface Pads in packs of two: 75mm (3 inch) at 17mm thick and 125mm (5 inch) at 12mm thick.

How to choose

Match the diameter to your backing plate and discs; the thickness comes with the size.

• 75mm, 17mm thick: for spot repairs such as a run or a dust nib, with extra cushion over curves and body lines.
• 125mm, 12mm thick: for sanding a whole panel, for example levelling orange peel; the thinner foam keeps the disc flatter.

Good to know

• The discs to go with them are in Wet Sanding Discs, where the CarPro SIC discs come in 3 and 5 inch to match both sizes.
• Check the disc sits centred and grips firmly before you start: a disc that slips or overhangs the foam can mark the paint.
