Water Tanks, Pumps & Generators

This category is for working away from a mains socket: a generator runs an electric pressure washer, vacuum or polisher at a show or on a mobile job. The range is Gorilla Power generators, from the 2000W GP2000i suitcase inverter up to the 8000W GP8000iE open frame, including two dual-fuel models.

How to choose

• Wattage: add up everything that will run at the same time, using the rating plate on each tool, and leave headroom, because pressure washer and vacuum motors draw more as they start. Compare that with the generator's running output, not its peak figure.
• Inverter or not: the inverter models (GP2000i, GP3500i, GP3800iE, GP5000iE, GP8000iE) give a steadier output that suits chargers and electronics. The suitcase models are the easiest to lift into a van.
• Starting: models with an E in the name have electric start, and the GP5500E-DF and GP6500E-DF are dual-fuel.

Good to know

• Only run a generator outside, well away from doors and windows, never in a garage or van: the exhaust contains carbon monoxide.
• Before storing it over winter, drain the fuel or run it dry: stale fuel left in the carburettor is a common reason a generator will not start.

What size generator do I need for a pressure washer?

Add up the rated watts of everything that will run at once, from each tool's rating plate, and choose a generator whose running output covers that with headroom, because motors draw more as they start. Compare the running output, not the peak figure. Only ever run a generator outside. Electric pressure washers are in Pressure Washers.
