Leather Protection

Leather protection adds a barrier to clean leather, so jeans dye, spills and the rub of getting in and out land on the protector rather than on the leather's own finish. The range covers Sonax PROFILINE Leather Protection, a wax-free leather care with UV protection, Koch-Chemie Colourlock Leather Care and coatings such as the AutoBead Leather Coating and CarPro CQuartz Leather. Our leather cleaner guide explains when to clean, condition and protect.

How to choose

  • Protectant or coating: a protectant is quick to wipe on and easy to top up after each deep clean. A coating such as the AutoBead Leather Coating takes more preparation and curing time but is made to last longer. See Interior Coatings.
  • Seat colour: beige, grey and white leather shows denim dye first, so light seats gain the most from regular protection.

Good to know

  • Protect only clean, dry leather. Clean first with a product from Leather Cleaners, as anything left on the surface gets sealed in.
  • With a protectant, the usual order is clean, condition if the leather needs it, then protect. A coating goes on bare, freshly cleaned leather instead.

How can I protect my leather car seats?

Clean them, condition the leather if it feels dry, then wipe on a leather protector, which takes the jeans dye and wear instead of the leather itself. Light coloured seats need it most, and a leather coating lasts longer if you have time for the prep.
