Cordless Polishers

Cordless polishers run on batteries, so there is no lead to drag across the paint or catch on a mirror, and no need for a socket near the car. The range covers full-size cordless dual action machines such as the Rupes BigFoot iBrid HLR21 and ShineMate EB351, the ShineMate EB251 cordless rotary, and mini polishers from DAS-6, Maxshine, SGCB and Rupes.

How to choose

• Size: a full-size machine for whole panels, a mini such as the DAS-6 Nano or Rupes HLR75 for pillars, bumpers, badges and headlights. More minis are in Mini & Nano Polishers.
• Action: dual action machines are the forgiving choice for correction; the cordless rotaries from ShineMate and SGCB cut faster in small spots but need more control.
• Throw: the HLR21 comes in 15mm and 21mm versions. The 21mm covers large flat panels faster; the 15mm is easier on curves and smaller panels.
• Battery: a full correction can outlast one battery, so a spare keeps you working while the first charges.

Good to know

Keep batteries indoors over winter and charge them at room temperature: lithium-ion batteries can be damaged by charging below freezing.
