Glass Polishing Pads

A glass polishing pad carries a glass compound on a polisher. Glass is far harder than paint, so the pad has a dense, firm face, such as rayon, rather than the soft foam of a paint pad. There are two Lake Country pads in the range: a 3 inch glass polishing pad and a 5 inch rayon pad.

How to choose

• Size: the 3 inch pad suits door mirrors, small side windows and the tight corners of a screen; the 5 inch covers a windscreen faster.
• Backing plate: use a plate no bigger than the pad, so its edge cannot touch the glass or the trim. See Backing Plates.

Good to know

• Use these pads with a compound from Glass Compounds and keep them for glass: a pad loaded with glass compound should not go near paint.
• Brush the dried compound out of the face as you work, and clean the pad afterwards with a product from Pad Cleaning.
• Keep the glass cool by working small areas; heat can crack a screen.
