Deep Clean an Interior

How to choose

• Interior Cleaners and Interior APCs: the main cleaners for dashboards, door cards and trim. APCs are diluted, stronger for a neglected interior and weaker for routine cleans.
• Carpet & Fabric Cleaners, Fabric Shampoos and Spot & Stain Removers: for seats, carpets, mats and headlining.
• Leather Cleaners and Alcantara Cleaners: made for materials that general cleaners can dry out or mark.
• Interior Detailing Brushes, Carpet & Fabric Brushes, Scrub Pads and Pet Hair Removal: agitate the cleaner into vents, seams and fibres.
• Vacuums & Hoovers and Extractors & Steam Cleaners: take the loosened dirt and cleaning solution back out of the fabric.

Good to know

• Vacuum first, clean second: loose grit turns into mud when a cleaner goes on.
• Work top down, from headlining and dash to seats and then carpets, so dirt falls onto areas you have not cleaned yet.
• Test any cleaner on a small hidden area of fabric, leather or Alcantara first.
• Let fabric dry fully with the doors or windows open before you refit mats or close the car up.

How do you clean an extremely dirty car interior?

Vacuum everything first, then work from the top down: headlining and dash, then seats, then carpets. Use a diluted interior APC on the worst plastics and a carpet cleaner and brush on fabric, lift the dirt out with an extractor or wet vacuum, then deal with any smell and leave the doors open until it is dry.
