Best Quick Detailer UK: Everyday, Ceramic and Matte

Everyday gloss, ceramic top-ups or matte-safe sprays: the quick detailers we stock compared in their makers' own words, and how to use one without streaks.

Best quick detailer UK: 303 Speed Detailer, AutoBead Quick Detailer and Infinity Wax QDX Graphene with a blue microfibre cloth beside a dark grey car

A quick detailer is the spray that keeps a clean car looking freshly detailed between washes: it lifts dust and fingerprints, adds gloss and, depending on the formula, tops up your protection. This guide explains what a quick detailer does, which type suits your car, how to use one without streaks, and compares the quick detailers we stock using each maker's own words.

What is the best quick detailer in the UK?

It depends on your paint and how it is protected. AutoBead Quick Detailer is our first pick for everyday use, and AutoBead Ceramic Quick Detailer adds longer protection. For a ceramic-coated car, Infinity Wax Synergy QD is made for the job, and for matte paint or wraps choose a gloss-free detailer such as Stjarnagloss Mork.

What does a quick detailer do?

A quick detailer is a light spray for clean or nearly clean paint. It removes the dust, fingerprints and smears that build up between washes, adds gloss, and most formulas leave a thin layer that helps water bead. It is not a replacement for a wash: grit on a dirty car needs a proper wash first, as our guide on how to wash your car safely explains.

Our picks by job

Every pick below is in stock with us, and every claim comes from the maker's own listing or website.

Everyday gloss and dust removal

  • AutoBead Quick Detailer: a polymer based quick detailing spray for after the wash. AutoBead says it safely removes dust, fingerprints, smudges and smears, adds clarity and gloss, and tops up existing wax.
  • 303 Automotive Speed Detailer: its listing says it cleans, protects and shines paint, plastics, fibreglass, aluminium, chrome, stainless steel and even glass, is anti-static so it repels dust, has UV blockers, and wipes dry with no streaking or hazing. Mist it on and wipe off.
  • Shiny Garage Morning Dew QD and Wax: a blend of polymers and wax that its listing says removes light dirt and water spots and leaves a hydrophobic layer. Shiny Garage says to keep it off hot paint and out of direct sunlight, and not to let it dry on the surface.
  • Autobrite Project 64: a pH neutral, polymer gloss enhancing spray that its listing says is safe on paint, glass, brightwork and alloy wheels, and over ceramic coatings. It can be layered for more gloss and is made for maintaining sealants and waxes after a wash.

Longer-lasting protection

  • AutoBead Ceramic Quick Detailer: a blend of nano ceramic particles and reactive polysiloxanes that AutoBead says adds a layer of ceramic protection lasting about 6 months, with strong gloss and water beading. AutoBead lists it as suitable for use as a drying aid.
  • Infinity Wax QDX Graphene: an SiO2 based detail spray enhanced with graphene nano-platelets, developed with Applied Graphene Materials. Infinity Wax says it fills small defects for extra gloss and improves slickness and water behaviour, and that it works on its own or as a topper for sealants and hybrid waxes.
  • ValetPro Citrus Bling: a carnauba wax and silicone quick detailer that ValetPro rates at 4 weeks of protection. ValetPro also lists it as a clay lube and a drying aid, and as suitable for painted and lacquered wheels.

For ceramic-coated cars

  • Infinity Wax Synergy QD: a solvent based quick detailer with a high SiO2 content, made to bond to hydrophobic ceramic coatings where water based sprays struggle. Infinity Wax says to use it only on a clean, dry car, as it will not work as a waterless wash or a wipe down on a dusty vehicle.
  • Sonax XTREME Ceramic Ultra Slick Detailer: its listing says it renews existing ceramic protection between washes, lifts dust and fingerprints without streaking and leaves a water-repellent finish. It is also suitable for matte and wrapped surfaces.

For matte paint and wraps

  • Stjarnagloss Mork: a quick detailer that Stjarnagloss made for frosted paintwork and matt wraps, designed to preserve that matt look.
  • Crankalicious Carboniferous: a gloss-free detailer for matt finishes, including uncoated carbon fibre. Its listing says it removes dust, light dirt and fingerprints and leaves no residue, and that it can also be used on gloss surfaces and hard plastics.

How do you use a quick detailer?

  1. Start with a clean or lightly dusty car. Anything heavier needs a wash first.
  2. Work on cool paint in the shade, one panel at a time. 303 says to make sure the surface is cool and dry, and Shiny Garage says to keep Morning Dew off hot paint and out of direct sunlight.
  3. Mist a light coat onto the panel or onto a folded microfibre cloth.
  4. Spread it with the cloth, then buff off with a second clean, dry cloth before it dries.
  5. Change to a fresh cloth as soon as one looks dirty, so you are not dragging grit across the paint. Our guide to the best microfibre cloths for cars covers which to use.

Can you use a quick detailer as a drying aid?

Some are made for it. AutoBead lists its Ceramic Quick Detailer as suitable for use as a drying aid, and ValetPro lists Citrus Bling as one. Mist it onto the wet panel and dry with your drying towel, as our guide to the best car drying towel explains. Infinity Wax Synergy QD is the exception here: it is for clean, dry paint only.

Is a quick detailer the same as a spray wax?

They overlap. A quick detailer is mainly for light cleaning and gloss between washes, while a spray wax is mainly about adding protection. Some products do both: Shiny Garage calls Morning Dew a quick detailer and spray sealer in one, and AutoBead says its Quick Detailer tops up existing wax.
