Monster Energy is the energy drink brand of Monster Beverage Corporation, a company based in Corona, California, that develops, markets, sells and distributes energy drinks. It describes Monster Energy drinks as a line of carbonated energy drinks containing vitamins, minerals, nutrients, herbs and other ingredients. The brand was created in 2002 by Hansen Natural, which changed its name to Monster Beverage Corporation in 2012, and the Monster Energy line now takes in the original drink, the Juice Monster flavours and the Ultra range.

The Drivers HQ stocks six Monster Energy drinks, each listed in a 500ml can. Monster Energy Drink Original is the familiar black can with the green logo. From the Juice Monster range there are Mango Loco, Pacific Punch and Pipeline Punch, and from the lighter-tasting side of the line there is Ultra White. Monster Energy drink Mango completes the range. All six sit in the Drinks section of the shop, alongside our car care and car culture ranges.

From Hansen's Juices to Monster Energy

Monster Beverage Corporation traces its story back to the 1930s, when Hubert Hansen and his sons started a business selling fresh non-pasteurised juices in Los Angeles, California. In 1977 Tim Hansen, one of Hubert's grandsons, saw a demand for shelf stable pasteurised natural juices and juice blends and formed Hansen Foods, which went on to add Hansen's Natural Soda to its range.

In 1992 Hansen Natural Corporation acquired the Hansen's natural soda and apple juice business, and under its ownership the business expanded into the growing alternative beverage category, in particular energy drinks. Monster Energy was created in 2002 and released with its original flavour, and in 2012 the company changed its name from Hansen Natural Corporation to Monster Beverage Corporation, the name it uses today from its base in Corona, California.

The Original, Juice Monster and Ultra

The Original, Juice Monster and Ultra

Monster Beverage lists a wide Monster Energy product line, from Monster Energy itself to Juice Monster flavours such as Mango Loco, Pacific Punch and Pipeline Punch, and Ultra flavours such as Ultra Fiesta Mango. The Original is where the brand began, and the ingredients listed on our product page include taurine, Panax ginseng root extract, L-carnitine L-tartrate, caffeine and B vitamins.

Its product description says Juice Monster Pipeline Punch was created in honour of the Banzai Pipeline, the famous wave on the North Shore of Oahu, with passion fruit, orange and guava flavours. Mango Loco lists concentrated fruit juices including white grape, mango, guava and pineapple, and Pacific Punch is described as a fruit flavoured energy drink.

According to its product description, Ultra, also known as the White Monster, came about when Monster's team riders asked for a new drink that was a little less sweet and lighter-tasting, with a full load of the Monster energy blend. The flavour profile is given as light refreshing citrus, and the white can makes it easy to pick out from the rest of the range.
