Sparco's own history begins in 1977. The company says it grew from the dream of two young drivers from Turin who wanted to make their own world, motor racing, safer, at a time of major accidents when the FIA had decided to act. Wikipedia records that the first product to bring Sparco to wider notice was a fireproof racing suit.

Success on track followed quickly. Sparco's timeline records that in 1983 Nelson Piquet won the Formula 1 World Championship with Sparco, and that in the same year the Lancia 037 that won the World Rally Championship had a Sparco seat.
