The best car interior dressing gives clean plastics UV protection and the finish you want without a greasy, dust-catching shine. For a quick matt, factory look on every surface, AutoBead Interior Detailer is our first pick; for restoring faded plastics, Sonax PROFILINE PlasticCare; and for rubber mats that must stay grippy, Koch-Chemie Gummifix. Here is how the interior dressings we stock compare.
What is the best car interior dressing in the UK?
It depends on the finish and the surface. AutoBead Interior Detailer is the everyday choice: anti-static, lightly cleaning and matt on plastics, vinyl, metal, rubber and leather. Sonax PROFILINE PlasticCare brings tired plastics back with a subtle shine. 303 Aerospace Protectant is the UV specialist for dashboards, and Gummifix is the one for floor mats.

What does an interior dressing do?
It finishes and protects plastic, vinyl and rubber after cleaning. A good dressing evens out the colour, adds UV protection against the fading and cracking that sunlight causes through the glass, and, in the anti-static ones, helps dust settle less. It is not a cleaner first and foremost: clean the surface, then dress it. Our guide to the best car interior cleaner covers the cleaning step.

Matt, satin or gloss: which finish should you choose?
Most modern interiors have a matt or satin finish from the factory, so a matt dressing looks the most natural and reflects least in the windscreen. AutoBead describes the finish of its Interior Detailer as matt and OEM, the AnGel listing describes a professional matte, non-greasy and non-tacky finish, and the 303 Protectant Wipes listing says the formula dries to a clear matte finish. The 303 Aerospace Protectant listing gives a natural satin, OEM-style finish. If plastics have faded, a dressing with a little more depth, such as Sonax PlasticCare with its subtle shine, can restore the colour; Sonax lets you set the gloss by how much you dilute it.

Our picks by job
Every pick below is in stock with us, and every claim comes from the maker's own listing or website.
Everyday matt finish on every surface
An anti-static interior detailer with light cleaning power that AutoBead says removes smudges, fingerprints and dust, protects from UV rays and leaves a matt, OEM finish. It is made for plastics, vinyl, metal, rubber and leather, with a coconut scent.
Its listing describes a water-based, pH-neutral, silicone-free gel that cleans and protects interior plastics and vinyl, with a built-in UV protective and a matte, non-greasy, non-tacky finish.
Restoring faded plastics
A regenerating plastic care that Sonax says restores colour with a subtle shine, conceals dull spots and scratches and preserves all interior plastics. It is solvent free and also works outside the car and in the engine bay. Sonax pre-dilutes it up to 1:2 with water depending on the gloss you want, spreads it with a plastics care pad or soft microfibre cloth, and says not to use it on hot surfaces.
UV protection for dashboards and seals
Its listing describes a water-based UV protectant for vinyl, rubber, plastics and trim, including dashboards and rubber seals, that helps prevent fading and cracking without a greasy residue and is free of silicone oil and petroleum distillates.
A tub of 25 wipes with the 303 Protectant formula, handy for the glovebox. The listing says it dries to a clear matte finish and repels dust and stains, and is not for unfinished leather such as suede, fabrics, floorings, clear plastics, gauge panels or headlights.
Floor mats and plastic floors that must stay grippy
A non-greasy, silicone-oil-free care product that Koch-Chemie makes for rubber foot mats, plastic floor surfaces and other interior areas where slip resistance is needed. Apply it with a sponge or spray bottle to clean, dry surfaces and leave it to dry.

How do you apply an interior dressing?
Apply it to clean, dry plastics in a thin layer from a cloth or applicator, then buff off the excess. Keep it off anything you grip or press with your feet.
- Clean first: vacuum, then wipe or brush the plastics with a suitable interior cleaner and let them dry.
- Apply to a cloth: spray onto a microfibre cloth or applicator, not straight onto the dashboard. AutoBead gives this tip for the dashboard so no overspray reaches the windscreen.
- Spread it thinly: work the dressing over one area at a time in a thin, even layer.
- Buff off: use a clean, dry, short pile microfibre for an even matt finish, as AutoBead advises.
- Avoid the controls: keep it off the pedals, steering wheel grip and gear knob, so nothing your hands and feet rely on becomes slippery. For mats, use a non-slip product such as Gummifix.
- Top up: reapply regularly, because dashboards that sit in the sun need it most often.

A soft applicator suits gels such as AnGel, and a clean microfibre cloth buffs the finish.
Microfibre Foam Applicator Pad
A foam applicator whose foam core spreads product evenly.
FibreKing Premium Microfibre Cloths
Single microfibre cloths that work wet or dry, for buffing off the excess.
Common questions
Can you use interior dressing on the steering wheel and pedals?
Do not dress anything you grip or press with your feet. Even a non-greasy dressing changes how a surface feels, and the steering wheel, gear knob and pedals need full grip. Clean them with an interior cleaner and leave them bare. Floor mats are the exception only with a product made to keep slip resistance, which is why Koch-Chemie makes Gummifix.
Does interior dressing attract dust?
A greasy, glossy dressing can, which is why we prefer a matt, anti-static product inside. AutoBead describes its Interior Detailer as anti-static, and both 303 listings say their protectant repels dust and stains. Buffing off the excess also matters: a thin, dry layer holds less dust than a wet one.
Can you use interior dressing on leather seats?
Use a dedicated leather product instead, as our guide to the best car leather cleaner explains. For fabric seats, see how to clean car seats and carpets.
