We choose snow foam by the dirt you need to remove and the protection you want to maintain. AutoBead Snow Foam and Stjarnagloss SNÖ are options for regular washing when used as directed. A stronger product such as Dodo Juice iFoam Max has a different role and stricter surface limits. Start with compatibility and dilution, then judge how well the dirt rinses away rather than how thick the foam looks.
What is the best snow foam in the UK?
For regular washes on a car with wax, sealant, a ceramic coating, PPF or a wrap, choose a foam made to leave that protection in place: AutoBead Snow Foam, which will not degrade protection at the correct dilution, or a pH-neutral snow foam such as Stjarnagloss SNÖ or Koch-Chemie Gentle Snow Foam. For heavy winter grime, an alkaline foam such as Dodo Juice iFoam Max cleans harder, but keep it off sealed or waxed paint. Never let the foam dry.

pH-neutral or alkaline: which do you need?
A compatible pH neutral snow foam is a useful starting point for a regularly washed car. We still check its surface guidance and dilution: pH alone does not establish how a complete formula behaves on wax, coatings, wraps or sensitive trim.
An alkaline snow foam cleans harder. It is the better tool for traffic film, winter grime and cars that have gone a while between washes, but the stronger chemistry is not what you want on a protected car every week.
Mild alkaline formulas can also suit maintenance washing. AutoBead Snow Foam is one example: at the correct dilution it leaves protection in place. We would follow that product-specific guidance rather than rule a foam in or out on pH alone.
Dodo Juice makes both kinds: Apple iFoam is its pH-neutral maintenance foam, safe on wax, sealant, matt and gloss finishes, while iFoam Max is an aggressive alkaline traffic film remover foam that is not for sealed, waxed or delicate finishes.

Regular washes on protected paint
A concentrated pre-wash with a mild alkaline base that will not degrade last stage protection at the correct dilution. Mix 1 part to 4 parts water in the foam lance bottle, cover the car from the bottom up, leave it up to 10 minutes and rinse from the top down.
A pH-neutral, double-strength concentrate that is safe on ceramic coatings, waxes, sealants, paint protection film and vinyl wraps, including matte and satin finishes. Best for light to moderate dirt.
A high-foaming, pH-neutral foam with a cherry fragrance that does not attack waxed or sealed surfaces. It also works as a shampoo for a hand wash.
A pH-neutral maintenance foam, safe on wax, sealant, matt and gloss finishes. It is stronger than some alkaline foams.
PH 7 and safe on waxes, sealants and ceramic coatings. Use 100ml to 150ml of Yum Foam per foam bottle and let it dwell for 5 to 10 minutes.
Heavy grime and winter washes
An aggressive alkaline traffic film remover foam for heavy road film and winter grime. Keep it off sealed, waxed or delicate finishes and rinse thoroughly.
A citrus pre-wash sprayed onto road grime, traffic film and bug residue before the foam goes on. Use it at 100:1 for light cleaning, 50:1 for general cleaning and 30:1 for heavy grime, from a trigger, pump or foam sprayer, with up to 5 minutes of dwell on cool panels.
Concentrates that go further
A highly concentrated, high-cling foam used at up to 50:1. Use 50ml per foam lance bottle for a light wash, 100ml for standard cleaning and 150ml to 200ml for heavy dirt, with 3 to 5 minutes of dwell.

How much snow foam goes in a foam lance?
Use the dilution specified for that product and application. We would not increase concentrate simply because a washer seems underpowered: first check the lance orifice, settings and chemical pickup. The bottle mix is diluted again by the pressure washer, so it is not the final concentration reaching the car.
How do you use snow foam?
For AutoBead Snow Foam, we recommend following the rinse, mix, apply, dwell and rinse sequence below. Other pre-washes may specify a different starting surface, so check the bottle you are using.
- Rinse first: rinse the car to remove loose debris and dirt.
- Mix it: add 1 part snow foam to 4 parts water in the foam lance bottle.
- Foam the car: cover the whole car with foam, working from the bottom up.
- Let it dwell: leave it for up to 10 minutes, without letting it dry.
- Rinse it off: rinse all the foam off, starting at the highest point.
Common questions
Will snow foam strip wax or a ceramic coating?
A pH-neutral foam used as directed should not. The neutral foams from Stjarnagloss, Koch-Chemie, Dodo Juice and Yum Cars are all safe on existing protection. Strong alkaline foams are different: keep Dodo Juice iFoam Max off sealed, waxed and delicate finishes.
Is thicker foam better?
No. We judge the result by how much dirt rinses away before the contact wash. Foam needs to carry the correctly diluted cleaner and remain wet for the permitted dwell time; a shaving-foam appearance is not a measure of cleaning performance. Do you need a pressure washer for snow foam?
Not always. The usual setup combines a snow foam lance on a pressure washer. Some, such as Koch-Chemie Gentle Snow Foam, can also be used in a foam sprayer, and it also works as a car shampoo for a hand wash; our best car shampoo guide covers the contact wash. How long should snow foam dwell?
Usually a few minutes. AutoBead Snow Foam can dwell for up to 10 minutes, Mosschem Megafoam for 3 to 5 minutes and Yum Foam for 5 to 10 minutes. Whatever the product, never let snow foam dry on the car, and work out of direct sunlight.
