HKS from turbo kits to today

The first turbo kits. HKS USA says that a year after the company started, Hasegawa designed and built the first aftermarket turbocharger for passenger cars, and that HKS went on to bring out the first commercially available electronic turbo timer and boost controller, along with piggy-back fuel computers.

What HKS makes. HKS lists exhaust systems, electronics, turbochargers, suspension, original goods and parts for natural gas vehicles. HKS USA says its products have been put to the test in drag racing, road racing, rallying and top speed trials.

The company today. HKS Co., Ltd. had 288 employees in Japan and 417 across the group in August 2025. Besides the Fujinomiya headquarters it has sales offices in Saitama, Nagoya and Osaka, and affiliated companies in the USA, England, Thailand and China.

About HKS

HKS is a Japanese maker of aftermarket performance parts. It was founded in October 1973 by Hiroyuki Hasegawa, a former Yamaha Motor Company engineer, and his partner Kitagawa, with capital from Sigma Automotive, and the name comes from Hasegawa, Kitagawa and Sigma. They began by tuning petrol engines in a dairy-farming shed at the foot of Mount Fuji, and HKS still has its headquarters and two plants in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka. Its affiliated company HKS Europe is based in Cambridgeshire.

Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 HKS Livery skate deck. A Grid Icons illustrated skate deck of the R32 GT-R in the teal, purple and silver HKS livery, on 7-ply hard rock maple, sold as the deck alone or with wall mounts.

HKS Inspired Sunstrip. A Strictly Static windscreen sunstrip of about 140 x 28cm, leaving room to trim each side. Strictly Static designs, prints and makes its vinyls in the UK, and they are waterproof and UV protected.

Osaka 1985 HKS air freshener. A Strictly Static hanging air freshener in the Apple scent.
