Full Description

The ChemicalWorkz Clay Sponge is a black cleaning sponge with a high-tech polymer layer, made to replace a traditional clay bar. It removes tar, resin, asphalt, insect remains and other stubborn residues, and it is quicker and easier to use than clay.

ChemicalWorkz says it lasts much longer than a clay bar. Wash and rinse the car, keep it wet, spray a clay lubricant and glide the sponge over the panel without pressing, in horizontal and vertical strokes, rinsing it often in clean water. Clay bars work, but they are slow, and a bar dropped on the ground has to be thrown away. The ChemicalWorkz Clay Sponge swaps the bar for a black sponge with a high-tech polymer layer, which removes tar, resin, asphalt and insect remains, and ChemicalWorkz says it is quicker to use and lasts much longer than clay.

The rules are simple: a freshly washed, still wet car, plenty of clay lubricant and no solvent-based products, which dissolve the sponge. Glide it with light pressure in straight strokes, rinse it often in clean water, and finish with another wash.

How To Use

Prepare

  1. Wash the car thoroughly and rinse it, but do not let it dry.
  2. Keep solvent-based products away from the sponge.
  3. Spray a clay lubricant onto one section.

Clay

  1. Glide the sponge over the section without pressing hard.
  2. Work in horizontal and vertical strokes.
  3. Rinse the sponge often in clean water to avoid scratches.
  4. Work section by section until the paint feels smooth.
  5. Wash and dry the car again.

Top Tip: Rinse the sponge in clean water every few passes, trapped grit is what scratches.

ChemicalWorkz wash mitts, pads and clay

Chenille wash mitts. The micro chenille microfibre mitt lifts dirt away from the paint into its strands for a thorough hand wash. It measures 26 x 17cm, 80% polyester and 20% polyamide, with a black cuff, in blue, green, orange and red. Different colours make it easy to keep one mitt for paint and another for wheels.

Viscose wash pad. The Viscose Wash Pad is 24 x 17cm of 1,400gsm Korean microfibre (94% polyester, 6% viscose) around a foam core that soaks up wash water, with a narrower middle for a better grip.

Clay. The Magic Clay Bar comes as two 50g bars in Fine or Medium, for paint, glass, metal and plastic. It removes tree sap mist, insect remains, paint spatter, road tar, rail dust, overspray and industrial fallout, and the bars can be used several times. ChemicalWorkz strongly recommends a clay lubricant. The Clay Sponge replaces a bar with a polymer-coated sponge: wash and rinse the car, keep it wet, spray lubricant and glide it over the panel without pressing. ChemicalWorkz says it lasts much longer than a clay bar.

ChemicalWorkz swabs, tyre brush and drying

Swabs. The Detailing Swabs set holds 10 swabs in 5 designs with foam or microfibre tips, for vents, emblems and other tight spots inside and out. The Coating Swabs are five foam applicators on 9.5cm handles with a tapered 6.5cm tip, soft enough to work sealant or coating into grilles, multi-spoke wheels and brake calipers.

Ultimate Tyre Brush. The Ultimate Tyre Brush is 28cm long, with a non-slip comfort grip and extra soft bristles for scrubbing road grime off the tyre wall.

Magnetic Stripes. The Magnetic Stripes are 1,400gsm Shark Twisted Loop microfibre strips with built-in magnets, sold as a pair, each 26.5 x 5 x 1.5cm. Place them under a door mirror or another drip point after drying and they catch the water that would otherwise run down the door and leave spots.
