The car wash bucket is an essential parts of any car enthusiasts washing artillery.

This professional car Wash Bucket that we sell here at Linntec holds 18.9 litres (5 Gallons) of water and is a must-have for any detailer, enthusiast or professional.

Simply fill it up with your favourite car shampoo and you’ll have plenty of soapy water to clean your car.

The buckets that we sell at Linntec are extremely high quality and whilst they might seem expensive compared to other brands - they are extremely tough, very durable and are designed to work in tandem with the Grit Guard and Gamma Seal Lid (sold separately). In our opinion, and in the opinion of most detailers, these buckets are genuinely great value and we believe that you'll never need another bucket!

Technical Note:

Professional valeters and car detailers recommend the two-bucket system to guard against wash-induced swirls. Essentially its a safer way to wash your vehicle!

Fill one bucket with soapy water and fill the second bucket with clean water. Always rinse your wash mitt in the clean water before reloading with more soapy water. This extra step will keep the washing-water clean and reduce the amount of dirt you transfer back to the paint.

The Grit Guard White Bucket is a heavy-duty detailing wash bucket for car washing, rinse water, wheel cleaning setups and trade wash bays. The solid white finish gives a clean, simple look and works well in a colour-coded wash system where each bucket has a dedicated job. It is especially useful for shampoo solution, rinse water, interior tools or clean wash stages, while darker or brighter buckets can be kept for wheels and dirtier work. Unlike the transparent versions, this bucket does not show the water level or dirt build-up through the side, so water condition should be checked from above during use. The bucket is a US-style 5 gallon size, approximately 18.9 litres, and is compatible with Original Grit Guard inserts. This listing is for the bucket only, with inserts and accessories sold separately unless stated otherwise.

How To Use

Basic wash bucket setup

  1. Fill the bucket with clean water.
  2. Add car shampoo if using it as the wash bucket.
  3. Leave as clean water if using it as the rinse bucket.
  4. Fit a compatible Grit Guard insert if required.
  5. Use a dedicated wash mitt for paintwork.
  6. Rinse the mitt regularly during washing.
  7. Empty and refill the bucket if the water becomes heavily contaminated.

Two-bucket wash setup

  1. Use one bucket for shampoo solution.
  2. Use one bucket for rinse water.
  3. Fit a Grit Guard insert in the rinse bucket where available.
  4. Check the water condition from above during use.
  5. Rinse the mitt before returning it to the shampoo bucket.
  6. Replace dirty water before it becomes heavily soiled.
  7. Clean both buckets after washing.

Wheel bucket setup

  1. Use a separate bucket for wheels.
  2. Do not use the same wash media for wheels and paintwork.
  3. Add wheel shampoo or suitable cleaner solution where required.
  4. Use dedicated wheel brushes and mitts.
  5. Empty the bucket after wheel cleaning.
  6. Rinse thoroughly before storage.

After use

  1. Empty the bucket fully.
  2. Rinse out remaining dirt and shampoo.
  3. Clean around the base and inner walls.
  4. Allow the bucket to dry before storage.
  5. Store grit guards and accessories separately if needed.
  6. Keep paint wash buckets separate from wheel buckets.

Top Tip: Use different bucket colours for different jobs. For example, keep one bucket for paintwork, one for rinse water and one for wheels to reduce cross-contamination.

The Brand

Grit Guard

Grit Guard is the American company behind the original bucket insert, the Grit Guard Insert. In 2002 its founder, Doug Lamb, built prototype after prototype of a settling filter for washing his favourite red car: a grid that lets dirt come out of the wash mitt, sink to the bottom of the bucket and stay there instead of going back onto the paint. Grit Guard holds US patent 7,025,880 for the Insert, is family-owned and operated, and designs and makes its products in the USA, from Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Grit Guard products

The Insert. The Grit Guard Insert sits in the bottom of the wash bucket. Its radial surface pulls dirt and grit out of the mitt as you agitate it under the water, and the dirt settles at the bottom of the bucket, below the grid and away from the mitt. It measures 263mm across and 63mm tall and fits most 3.5 to 6 US gallon buckets. We list it in black, blue, gold, green, red, silver, white and yellow, so you can colour-code the wash, rinse and wheel buckets; black does not show staining from wheel cleaner.

The Washboard. The Washboard fits onto the Insert and gives the mitt or brush a second surface to rub against on a downward stroke, so grit is pulled out and drops to the bottom. Like the Insert it has no flat ledges for dirt to collect on. It needs an Insert to fit; the Insert is not included.

Buckets and lids. The transparent wash buckets come in clear, black, blue, red and orange, along with a white wash bucket (bucket only), and the 12-inch bucket lid cushion, in black or red, sits on a lidded 5 gallon bucket to give you a 1-inch foam seat or kneeler while you work on the lower parts of the car.

Pad care. Pad Renewing Solution is a concentrated spray that breaks down petroleum- and water-based compounds on buffing pads: two or three sprays release dried, hardened compound. It is non-corrosive and residue-free, and also works as a general purpose cleaner.

Most swirl marks come from grit dragged across the paint by the wash mitt. The two-bucket method with a Grit Guard Insert in each bucket keeps that grit away from the mitt:

  • Wash bucket: shampoo solution with a Grit Guard Insert at the bottom.
  • Rinse bucket: clean water with a second Insert, and a Washboard if you have one.

Load the mitt in the wash bucket, wash one panel from the top down, then rub the mitt across the Insert in the rinse bucket so the dirt drops to the bottom. Go back to the wash bucket for more solution and move to the next panel. Do the wheels last, or with a separate bucket, mitt and brushes, so brake dust never meets the paint; a different colour Insert makes that bucket easy to spot.

Pre-washing with a snow foam or citrus pre-wash first takes off more of the loose dirt before the mitt touches the car.
