Full Description

Medium Cut Polish 2000 is Menzerna's standard medium cut polish, step 2 of its four-step system of heavy cut, medium cut, finish and protection. Menzerna rates it 5 for cut and 6 for gloss and makes it to remove slight and moderately deep scratches, car wash marks and the polishing marks a heavier compound leaves behind.

It is free from silicones and fillers, so scratches are taken out by levelling the paint rather than filled, and what you see after the final wipe is the true finish. Menzerna optimises it for its own Medium Cut Foam Pad (our yellow 150mm medium cut pad) and follows it with a finishing polish such as Final Finish 3000 to remove any holograms. Listed here in 250ml and 1 litre bottles.

How to use

  1. Clean the surface thoroughly.
  2. Shake the bottle and apply the polish to the medium cut foam pad.
  3. Use a rotary or orbital polisher at a moderate speed, working in overlapping cross passes.
  4. Keep moderate, even pressure. The polish looks milky at first: work it until only a thin, slightly transparent, oily film is left.
  5. Wipe off the residue with a clean microfibre cloth.
  6. Follow with a Menzerna finishing polish to remove holograms, then protect the paint.

The Brand

Menzerna

Menzerna is a German maker of polishing compounds that has been making polishes since 1888, when Friedrich Menzer founded the company in Pforzheim. Its first products were polishing pastes for precious metals, sold to the local watch and jewellery trade, and it now develops and produces its polishes in Ötigheim for industry, trade, cars and boats. Menzerna says its car polishes are made from polishing minerals without fillers or silicones, so they remove scratches by levelling the clear coat rather than hiding them, and its system runs in four steps: heavy cut, medium cut, finish and protection, with a matched pad for each.

At The Drivers HQ we stock Menzerna online with UK delivery and in our Ilkeston shop. Popular choices include Medium Cut Polish 2000, Super Heavy Cut 300 Green Line and Power Lock Ultimate Protection.

Menzerna compounds and polishes, step by step

Step 1, heavy cut. Super Heavy Cut 300 removes 1500 sanding marks on a heavy cut foam pad, or 1200 on wool, and the VOC free Super Heavy Cut 300 Green Line does the same job without solvent odour. Heavy Cut 400 is a one step compound whose diminishing abrasives cut and then finish to a high gloss on hard and scratch resistant paint, also as 400 Green Line. Heavy Cutting 1000 takes out sanding marks, buffer trails and random deep scratches with long working time, and Heavy Cutting 1100 is made for use with lambswool against severe defects.

Step 2, medium cut. Medium Cut Polish 2000 is the standard medium cut for moderate scratches, wash marks and the marks a heavier compound leaves. 2200 adds extra cutting power for hard and scratch resistant finishes, 2400 has lubricating oils for older paint that has lost its natural oils, and 2500 is designed for soft paint.

Step 3, finish. Final Finish 3000 removes fine swirls and holograms and burnishes to a high gloss, Super Finish 3500 targets light scratches on scratch resistant clear coats, and Super Finish Plus 3800 gives the highest gloss for show cars. For one machine pass there is One Step Polish 3-in-1, which polishes out 3000 grit sanding marks and protects.

Step 4, protection. Power Lock Ultimate Protection is a polymer sealant for all clear coats with a service life of about six months. Spread it with the wax foam pad at low speed and pressure until it turns transparent, wait 20 to 30 minutes, buff off and let it harden for several hours.

MENZERNA 150mm LAMBS WOOL CUTTING PAD - The Drivers HQ

Menzerna pads, cloths and polishing tips

Pads. The Menzerna foam pads are colour coded to each step, in 150mm and 95mm spot pad sizes: red heavy cut (150mm, 95mm), yellow medium cut (150mm, 95mm), green soft cut for removing holograms with the finish polishes (150mm, 95mm) and blue wax pads for Power Lock and other sealants (150mm, 95mm). The 150mm Lambs Wool Cutting Pad gives fast cut with less heat build up, to be refined afterwards with a lighter polish and pad.

Cloth and bucket. The Premium Microfibre Cloth is a borderless 40 x 40cm, 550gsm cloth for taking off polish and sealant residue, and the Wash Bucket With Gritguard is a 5 gallon bucket with a Grit Guard insert that keeps grit under the sieve, away from the mitt.

How much polish to use. Menzerna recommends three to four pea-sized drops on a 95mm pad, or five on a 150mm pad, for each 40 x 40cm section, and says a medium sized car takes about 50 to 100ml of polish. Polish under cover, never in direct sunlight, and on black paint finish with a finish polish, because the smallest marks show.
