OCDfinish is a UK based car care brand that makes detailing products, from shampoo to hydrophobic glass cleaner. The brand says it was founded through a love of detailing and set up in 2009 by close friends Neil Trew and Ashley James. Its stated aim is a range of car care, backed by customer service, that suits car enthusiasts, detailers and resellers alike. On its own website the range is grouped into wash, wheels, protection, finishing and interior products, with accessories, kits and merchandise alongside.

The Drivers HQ stocks four OCDfinish products, each with a different job. For the exterior there is OCDfinish Erase Tar & Glue Remover (500ml), which lifts tar and adhesive from paintwork, and OCDfinish Enhance Deep Gloss Polish (500ml), a finishing polish. OCDfinish 20/20 Vision Glass Cleaner (500ml) looks after windows and mirrors, and OCDfinish Cow Food Leather Armour (250ml) is a leather protection product for seats and other leather trim. Together they cover glass cleaners, leather protection, finishing polishes and tar and glue removers.

OCDfinish says it wants its products to suit everyone from the car enthusiast to the detailer, so the range fits a weekend wash as easily as a working detailing kit. In a typical routine, Erase goes on during the wash to break down tar spots and adhesive residue before rinsing. A finishing polish such as Enhance is normally used on clean, decontaminated paint to refine the gloss before any wax or sealant. 20/20 Vision takes care of the glass, and Cow Food Leather Armour goes onto clean, dry leather to protect it.

Built by Friends Who Loved Detailing

OCDfinish says it was set up in 2009 by close friends Neil Trew and Ashley James. Their love of cars and detailing soon earned them the nickname Mr. OCD, as they were always cleaning their cars, and a Sunday at home could turn into almost a mini meet. At every show they attended they bought products, especially anything new, and settled on a set of favourites. The trouble was that those favourites all came from different places, which made ordering a nightmare.

The answer, the brand says, was a brand of their own that put all their favourite products in one place, in the same bottle. The idea took shape at a photo shoot: a photographer who wanted to shoot them cleaning cars for his final degree brought along a friend who was studying to be a chemist, and he offered to help. The range was then developed one product at a time. It took over 2 years to complete the opening range, and the founders sold all they had, including a track car, and even moved back home to raise the funds.

OCDfinish says the products were a hit at the shows that followed, and a few resellers joined to help distribute them further. In 2015 Ashley James stepped down as a partner because of work commitments and time, and Neil Trew took full ownership, bringing on more resellers and opening an outlet in Holland to create a supply chain into Europe. Today OCDfinish describes itself as a UK based company that ships to most countries worldwide.

Easy to Use Care for Every Stage

OCDfinish says its ethos is to provide products that are easy to use and made to a high standard, and its website groups the range into wash, wheels, protection, finishing and interior products. The four products The Drivers HQ stocks come from across that range, so each one has a clear job in a cleaning routine rather than overlapping with the others.

The brand describes Erase Tar & Glue Remover as a powerful product that breaks down tar on paintwork so it can be washed off during the cleaning process, and says it also cuts through grease, oil, wax and other adhesives. Its directions are to spray it onto the affected area, leave it to penetrate for a maximum of 60 seconds, release the tar and glue with a microfibre cloth and rinse off. 20/20 Vision Glass Cleaner is made for all glass and mirrored surfaces, and the brand says it leaves a clear, smear-free finish with an element of protection from its Nano technology.

Cow Food Leather Armour is designed, in the brand's words, to defend against the elements and prolong the life of your leather while keeping it supple. It is applied directly to a dry surface and buffed off with a clean microfibre cloth, and OCDfinish also makes a Cow Food Leather Cleaner for preparing leather before conditioning. Completing the set, Enhance Deep Gloss Polish is a finishing polish in a 500ml bottle, used to bring out the gloss in clean paintwork before protection is applied.
