Hayburner

Hayburner is an independent magazine for the air-cooled Volkswagen scene, and it describes itself as the largest independent air-cooled Volkswagen magazine in the world. It comes out 4 times a year in print as Hayburner Plus, alongside the free Hayburner Digital download, and concentrates on air-cooled builds, VW and Porsche stories and classic car enthusiast news. Born Around a Campfire

According to Hayburner, the idea for the magazine came from a discussion around a campfire with friends, when the UK economic climate was affecting the VW scene and the editor, Ned, was doing autojumbles to keep afloat. The concept was to start a company that benefitted everyone involved: businesses could promote their products at a very cheap rate, and readers got a free magazine.

The name has its own story. Hayburner explains that it is an old 50s hot-rodders' term for a car that will always cost you money, which will ring true for anyone keeping a classic on the road. The magazine concentrates on air-cooled builds, VW and Porsche stories and classic car enthusiast news, and the team attends and trades at UK and European shows each year.

Faced with a huge rise in print costs, Hayburner chose to breathe new life into the magazine rather than let it fade away. Hayburner Digital is a free download for readers anywhere in the world, while Hayburner Plus is a bigger printed edition with extra features and content for subscribers. The team asks readers to use its online shop to help support the magazine.
