Expert Notes

The Road Map is one of the Sole Flavours Originals designs. It is a throwback to the toy road map play carpets that filled bedrooms and living rooms, where whole towns were built and toy cars sat in traffic jams. It follows the Sole Flavours Road Map shoe design. The card shows a green and grey town map with roads, roundabouts and buildings, and the SF logo. It carries a Cotton Fresh scent. Hang it on its string from the mirror or a hook so it hangs freely, never resting on the dashboard, trim or paint, because the fragrance oils can mark surfaces for good. Open it when you want the scent to start and swap it when it fades. It makes a small gift for anyone who grew up with a play mat.

Perfect For / Suitable Surfaces

  • Rear view mirror
  • Coat hooks and grab handles
  • Car interiors
  • Vans and campervans
  • Garages and workshops
  • Gifts for anyone who grew up with a play mat

Caution: It must hang freely: keep it off the dashboard, trim, paint and every other surface, as the fragrance oils can cause permanent damage.

The Brand

Sole Flavours

Sole Flavours is a UK car air freshener brand that calls itself The Original Scent Dealers. Its hanging air fresheners pair bold artwork with long-lasting fragrances, and the brand says they are made in the UK using high-quality materials. Its own store groups the designs into collections including Originals, Legends, Essentials and Multipacks, alongside a Violent Clique collection, and it also offers custom branding options. Several of its designs are collaborations, including work with the artist David Kaye and the car care brand Auto Finesse.

The Drivers HQ stocks a range of Sole Flavours hanging air fresheners, each with its own design and scent. Music tributes include Biggie in Cranberry and the Gangster Party design in Rhubarb and Custard, and other designs include Homer Simpson in Passion, Ron in Rich Mahogany and Skull Story in Strawberry. Collaboration designs complete the selection, with Sole Flavours x Auto Finesse in Africa, Sole Flavours x Ghettowxrkz in Forest Fresh and Sole Flavours x Like Hell.

Sole Flavours says its Biggie design is made for music lovers, collectors and car enthusiasts, and the range suits anyone who treats the interior as part of the build, from a daily driver to a car heading to a meet. Each one hangs from the rear-view mirror, and it is worth checking that it does not block your view of the road. For a fresher interior, hang a new one after a thorough vacuum and interior clean rather than using it to cover up odours, and swap designs whenever you fancy a change.

Buy Sole Flavours air fresheners from The Drivers HQ with UK-wide delivery by tracked Royal Mail, or collect your order free of charge from our walk-in store in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. An air freshener is an easy addition to any detailing order, so you can pick up a new scent alongside shampoos, microfibre towels and interior cleaners and give the car a finishing touch once the work is done.

The Original Scent Dealers

Sole Flavours describes itself as The Original Scent Dealers, and its range is built around hanging air fresheners that combine a design with a named scent. The brand says its air fresheners are crafted in the UK using high-quality materials and are designed to provide a consistent and long-lasting fragrance.

On its own store the designs are grouped into collections. Originals include Skull Story, which the brand describes as a playful twist on a childhood classic, while the Legends collection features music and sporting names such as Biggie, Tupac, Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali, with the Biggie and Tupac designs described as tributes. Essentials and Multipacks complete the range, alongside the Violent Clique collection.

Collaboration is a regular part of the brand. Sole Flavours says its HOMER design is its second project with the artist David Kaye, following their first collaboration, Skull Story, and Auto Finesse writes that it first worked with Sole Flavours on an air freshener in 2017, with further collaboration designs following in 2020.

SOLE FLAVOURS SKULL STORY TOY AIR FRESHENER (STRAWBERRY) - The Drivers HQ

Bold Artwork With Named Scents

Every Sole Flavours air freshener pairs a piece of artwork with a named fragrance. On its own site the brand lists Biggie with a cranberry scent, the Tupac Gangster Party design with rhubarb and custard and Skull Story with strawberry, the same scents as the versions stocked at The Drivers HQ.

The brand describes Biggie as a celebration of the legacy of one of hip-hop's most influential artists, and calls the Gangster Party design a true fan favourite that has returned by popular demand. Skull Story reimagines familiar toy characters with striking skull masks, blending nostalgia with street-style artwork.

Alongside these, The Drivers HQ stocks collaboration designs with Auto Finesse, Ghettowxrkz and Like Hell, plus Homer Simpson in Passion and Ron in Rich Mahogany. Each is made to hang from the rear-view mirror, and Sole Flavours notes that its Skull Story design can also hang in a home, office or workspace.
