Clear Detailing Wash Bucket With Or Without Gritt Guard — Buckets & Grit Guards at The Drivers HQ, Ilkeston

About the range

Buckets & Grit Guards

The two bucket method keeps grit off the paint: one bucket holds shampoo, the other clean water to rinse the mitt, and a grit guard at the bottom holds the dirt below the mitt's reach. The range covers Grit Guard clear buckets and coloured inserts, AutoBrite buckets with a sealed screw lid, a DTLR bucket on a trolley, lid cushions and organisers.

How to choose

  • Clear buckets: the dirt under the guard stays visible, so you can see when the rinse water needs changing.
  • Lids: a sealed screw lid keeps stored kit clean; the Grit Guard Lid Cushion sits on a lidded bucket as a seat for wheels and sills.
  • Extras: the Grit Guard Washboard adds an upright scrubbing surface; the Maxshine Bucket Buddy and AutoBrite organiser keep brushes and bottles at the bucket.

Good to know

Grit Guard inserts are made for round buckets and only work sitting flat on the bottom, so check the fit. Give the wheels their own bucket, with a different colour guard, and a mitt from Wheel Wash Mitts, so brake dust stays out of the paint water.

What does a grit guard do?

It sits flat on the bottom of the bucket. When you rub the mitt against it, the grit drops through the grid and settles underneath, out of reach of the mitt, so it does not go back onto the paint.

Do you need a grit guard in both buckets?

The rinse bucket needs one most, because that is where the mitt drops its grit. A second guard in the shampoo bucket catches whatever the mitt still carries when you reload it with suds.
