Soft Top Cleaners & Protectors

Soft top cleaners, protectors and brushes for fabric convertible roofs. A fabric hood collects dirt, mould, algae and bird lime and loses its water repellency over time, so it is cleaned with a soft top or fabric cleaner, brushed, rinsed and left to dry, then sealed with a fabric protector. How to choose

• Cleaning: Angelwax Excelsior and ValetPro Drop Top Cleaner are made for convertible hoods. ValetPro's is a pH neutral, ready-to-use spray for dirt and mould, and Angelwax adds a UV inhibitor. Dodo Juice Fibre Reviver is a solvent-free fabric cleaner that Dodo Juice also lists for soft-top cleaning.
• Protecting: Dodo Juice Fabricadabra is a nano sealant for convertible soft tops that repels water and dirt and stays breathable, and Autobead Fabric Coating goes on clean, dry fabric, is worked in with a soft brush and takes 24 hours to cure fully.
• Brushes: the Maxshine Soft Leather & Fabric Drill Brush Set fits a cordless drill for cleaning convertible roofs, and ValetPro's Convertible Hood Brush has strong bristles for algae and winter dirt.

Good to know

• Clean the hood and let it dry completely before a protector goes on: Autobead and Sonax both apply their fabric coatings only to a cleaned surface.
• Cover the paint and glass around the roof when spraying a protector, and wipe any overspray off straight away.
• 303 suggests spraying the hood's seams as well, to stop water wicking through them.

How do you clean and waterproof a convertible soft top?

Brush off the loose dirt, spray a soft top or fabric cleaner, agitate it with a soft top brush and rinse it off, then let the roof dry completely. Spray a fabric protector such as Fabricadabra or Autobead Fabric Coating evenly over the clean, dry fabric and let it cure before the roof gets wet.
