Expert Notes

The Alchemy Detailing Brush Set contains five soft boar's hair brushes in varying sizes, supplied boxed. It is the set we reach for on the jobs a cloth cannot do: dusting out air vents, working around buttons and door handles, and lifting dirt from door shuts, rubber trim and badges. Outside, Alchemy suggests pairing the brushes with a wheel cleaner for intricate alloy wheels and wheel nuts. Soft natural bristles suit anyone who wants gentle agitation rather than a stiff scrub. Pair the set with an interior cleaner, a wheel cleaner, a vacuum and clean microfibre towels, and keep whichever brush does the wheels separate from the rest. Rinse after every use and dry fully before boxing them away.

How To Use

Using it

  1. Choose the brush size that suits the vent, gap or badge you are cleaning.
  2. For interior dusting, work the soft bristles into vents and around buttons, then vacuum or wipe away the loosened dust.
  3. When a cleaner is needed inside, spray it onto the brush rather than directly onto switches or electrics.
  4. On door shuts, rubber trim and badges, agitate with light pressure and wipe the area with a clean microfibre towel.
  5. On wheels, apply your wheel cleaner, agitate around the spokes and wheel nuts, then rinse thoroughly.
  6. Work on cool wheels and do not let the wheel cleaner dry on the surface.

Cleaning and storage

  1. Rinse each brush in clean water straight after use to remove dirt and chemical residue.
  2. Work a little diluted car shampoo through the bristles if they are heavily soiled.
  3. Squeeze out excess water gently and reshape the bristles with your fingers.
  4. Let the brushes dry fully with the bristles pointing down before storing them.
  5. Keep the brush you use on wheels apart from the brushes used inside the car.
  6. Return the dry brushes to their box so the set stays together between details.

Top Tip: Set one brush aside for wheels only so brake dust and wheel cleaner never travel to your interior or badges.

  • Gently dusts out air vents
  • Agitates dirt from tight gaps
  • Cleans intricate alloys and wheel nuts
  • Cleans door shuts, rubber trim and badges

Frequently Asked Questions

How many brushes are in the set?

The Alchemy Detailing Brush Set contains five detailing brushes in varying sizes, supplied boxed. The different sizes let you match the brush to the vent, gap or badge you are working on.

What are the bristles made from?

The brushes use soft boar's hair bristles. Alchemy describes them as gently dusting out air vents, around buttons and door handles and other hard to clean areas.

Can I use these brushes inside the car?

Yes, Alchemy recommends them for interior work such as cleaning the dashboard and removing dust from vents. They are also suited to door shuts, rubber trim and badges.

Can I use them on alloy wheels?

Yes, Alchemy suggests using them with a wheel cleaner to clean intricate alloy wheels and wheel nuts. Keep the brush you use on wheels separate from your interior brushes afterwards.

Why use a brush instead of a microfibre cloth?

A detailing brush agitates dirt out of tight gaps where a cloth cannot reach. Use the brush to loosen the dirt, then wipe or rinse it away.

How do I clean the brushes after use?

Rinse them in clean water straight after use, gently squeeze out the excess and let them dry fully before storage. Always wash out chemical residue after wheel cleaning.

What should I pair this brush set with?

Pair the Alchemy Detailing Brush Set with an interior cleaner, a wheel cleaner, a vacuum and clean microfibre towels. The brushes loosen the dirt and the towel, vacuum or rinse removes it.

HQ Suggests Tips & Insights

  1. Use the smallest brush for vent slats and around switches.
  2. Spray interior cleaner onto the brush, not directly onto electrics.
  3. Vacuum as you brush to catch dust lifted from vents.
  4. Brush door shuts and badges before washing so the rinse carries dirt away.
  5. Use light pressure and let the bristles do the work.
  6. Rinse brushes straight after use so chemicals do not sit in them.
  7. Dry the brushes bristles down before storing them in the box.
  8. Order online with UK-wide delivery or visit our Ilkeston, Derbyshire store.

The Brand

Alchemy

Alchemy Car Care was developed from what the company describes as years of grassroots detailing experience. Rather than building the range around a catalogue of existing products, Alchemy says its formulas were repeatedly developed, tested, adjusted and tested again before release. Testing was carried out across different vehicles, paint types and paint colours, with the aim of producing products that worked in the way the people behind the brand wanted to use them themselves.

That practical approach is still reflected in the range. Products are generally straightforward in purpose, with clear applications rather than unnecessary overlap between multiple versions of the same chemical.

A Range That Covers the Detailing Process

A Range That Covers the Detailing Process

Alchemy has built a broad car care range covering pre-washing, contact washing, chemical decontamination, paint preparation, polishing, protection, interior cleaning, wheels and tyres. Grime provides the citrus pre-wash stage, Whitewash covers snow foam, Dirty Harry handles contact washing, while Chemical X and Diss-olve tackle iron contamination and tar. Further through the process, One Hit provides single-stage paint correction, with products such as Shell Suit, Duck Tail and Suga Coat covering different methods of adding protection and finishing the vehicle.

The range extends beyond liquids into clay, applicators, microfibres, brushes, buckets and other detailing accessories, allowing Alchemy products to be used through much of a complete exterior and interior detailing process.

Practical Chemistry With Useful Dilution

Practical Chemistry With Useful Dilution

A notable part of Alchemy's cleaning range is its use of concentrated products rather than relying solely on ready-to-use formulas. Grime Citrus Pre-Wash, for example, can be adjusted from around 10:1 for heavier contamination through to 100:1 for lighter cleaning, while also having applications beyond exterior pre-washing. Whitewash Snow Foam and Dirty Harry Shampoo are also sold as concentrated products, allowing the user to alter product strength or quantity according to the level of contamination and the job being carried out.

Alchemy is based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, and its range is also distributed to the detailing trade through Linntec. This places it firmly within the UK detailing market, with products covering enthusiast maintenance as well as the larger sizes and concentrated chemicals useful to regular and professional users.
