Expert Notes

The Alchemy Microfibre Wash Pad is a sponge wrapped in 70/30 blend microfibre, used for the contact stage of a hand wash. Alchemy says wash pads are far more absorbent than mitts, and the plush microfibre gently removes surface contaminants and holds onto dirt until it is rinsed away. It suits anyone following a two bucket wash who prefers a flat pad to a mitt, and Alchemy lists it as safe for all car surfaces. Use it after a snow foam pre-wash with a pH neutral shampoo, rinse it after every panel and keep a separate tool for wheels. Wash it at 40°C without fabric softener to keep the fibres working well.

Perfect For / Suitable Surfaces

  • Painted body panels
  • Roofs and bonnets
  • Doors, wings and bumpers
  • Glass and windows
  • Exterior plastic trim
  • Wing mirrors and pillars
  • Cars and vans

Caution: Use a separate tool for wheels and tyres, and if the pad is dropped, wash it thoroughly before it touches the paint again.

How To Use

Using it

  1. Pre-wash the car first with snow foam or a thorough rinse to remove loose grit.
  2. Soak the pad in your shampoo bucket so the microfibre and sponge fill with solution.
  3. Wash from the roof down in straight lines with light pressure.
  4. Rinse the pad in a separate rinse bucket after each panel before reloading.
  5. Leave the lowest, dirtiest panels until last.
  6. Rinse the car thoroughly and dry it with a microfibre drying towel.

Cleaning and storage

  1. Rinse the pad thoroughly in clean water straight after use.
  2. Wash it at 40°C without fabric softener, as Alchemy directs.
  3. Wash it with other microfibre only, away from cotton and lint shedding fabrics.
  4. Let it air dry fully before storing.
  5. Store it in a clean, dust free bag or container between washes.

Top Tip: Squeeze the pad gently in the rinse bucket so the sponge core releases trapped dirt before reloading.

  • Releases trapped dirt when rinsed
  • Designed for contact hand washing
  • Plush microfibre for a gentle wash

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Alchemy Wash Pad made from?

The Alchemy Microfibre Wash Pad is a sponge wrapped in 70/30 blend microfibre. Alchemy says it holds an incredible amount of water, while the plush microfibre lifts dirt from the paint.

Is a wash pad more absorbent than a wash mitt?

Yes, Alchemy says wash pads are far more absorbent than mitts. That lets the pad carry plenty of shampoo solution across each panel.

Will it scratch my paint?

Alchemy says the plush microfibre gently removes surface contaminants without scratching, with the fibres holding dirt until rinsed away. Always pre-wash first and rinse the pad often, as grit dragged across paint can mark any wash tool.

Can I use it on glass and trim?

Yes, Alchemy lists the wash pad as safe for all car surfaces. Keep it away from wheels and tyres so brake dust never reaches your paint.

How do I wash the pad?

Wash the Alchemy Wash Pad at 40°C without fabric softener, as Alchemy directs. Rinse it out straight after use and let it air dry before storing.

What size is it?

The Alchemy Microfibre Wash Pad is sold in one size. Alchemy does not publish its exact dimensions.

What should I use it with?

Use the pad with a pH neutral car shampoo, two buckets with grit guards and a snow foam pre-wash. Finish with a plush microfibre drying towel.

The Brand

Alchemy

Alchemy Car Care was developed from what the company describes as years of grassroots detailing experience. Rather than building the range around a catalogue of existing products, Alchemy says its formulas were repeatedly developed, tested, adjusted and tested again before release. Testing was carried out across different vehicles, paint types and paint colours, with the aim of producing products that worked in the way the people behind the brand wanted to use them themselves.

That practical approach is still reflected in the range. Products are generally straightforward in purpose, with clear applications rather than unnecessary overlap between multiple versions of the same chemical.

A Range That Covers the Detailing Process

A Range That Covers the Detailing Process

Alchemy has built a broad car care range covering pre-washing, contact washing, chemical decontamination, paint preparation, polishing, protection, interior cleaning, wheels and tyres. Grime provides the citrus pre-wash stage, Whitewash covers snow foam, Dirty Harry handles contact washing, while Chemical X and Diss-olve tackle iron contamination and tar. Further through the process, One Hit provides single-stage paint correction, with products such as Shell Suit, Duck Tail and Suga Coat covering different methods of adding protection and finishing the vehicle.

The range extends beyond liquids into clay, applicators, microfibres, brushes, buckets and other detailing accessories, allowing Alchemy products to be used through much of a complete exterior and interior detailing process.

Practical Chemistry With Useful Dilution

Practical Chemistry With Useful Dilution

A notable part of Alchemy's cleaning range is its use of concentrated products rather than relying solely on ready-to-use formulas. Grime Citrus Pre-Wash, for example, can be adjusted from around 10:1 for heavier contamination through to 100:1 for lighter cleaning, while also having applications beyond exterior pre-washing. Whitewash Snow Foam and Dirty Harry Shampoo are also sold as concentrated products, allowing the user to alter product strength or quantity according to the level of contamination and the job being carried out.

Alchemy is based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, and its range is also distributed to the detailing trade through Linntec. This places it firmly within the UK detailing market, with products covering enthusiast maintenance as well as the larger sizes and concentrated chemicals useful to regular and professional users.
