Using it

  1. Take one palm out of the pack and keep the other three for later.
  2. Hang it from the rear-view mirror or another suitable hook in the cabin.
  3. Check that it hangs freely and stays out of your view of the road.
  4. Make sure the scented paper cannot touch the dashboard, glass or trim.

Making it last

  1. Vacuum and wipe down the interior first so the fragrance is not covering dirt.
  2. Keep the doors and windows closed for a while after hanging to let the scent build.
  3. Change to a new palm from the pack once the fragrance fades.
  4. Store the spare palms somewhere cool, away from heat and sunlight.

The Palms. California Scents calls its Palms paper hanger super cute and so California: a scented paper disc with a palm tree design and the scent name on a wavy band, with a hanging loop for the rear-view mirror. The maker says it gives a strong, intense scent in a car, truck or SUV, comes in a sealed package to keep the fragrance until you open it, and also suits an RV, a bathroom or a laundry room.

Single Palms by colour. Coronado Cherry is hot pink with the scent of tart cherries, and Shasta Strawberry the softer rose pink. Newport New Car is bright blue, Ocean Wave deep teal and Laguna Breeze the palest turquoise. Monterey Vanilla is purple with a pink sun, Capistrano Coconut tan with brown palms, Ice silver grey with black palms, and California Clean completes the set.

Inside a recyclable aluminium canister, a biodegradable fibre pad holds organic fragrance oil, and the vented lid twists to set how much fragrance comes out, which also stretches its life. The can is spillproof, and once opened it freshens for up to 60 days in a car, van or truck, or a room at home. It is made in the USA.
