Expert Notes

Stjarnagloss Tjära is a targeted solvent cleaner designed to remove contamination that ordinary shampoos and water-based cleaners cannot effectively dissolve. Its natural orange oil formula quickly softens tar spots, sticker adhesive, glue residue and wheel weight bonding material, allowing deposits to be removed with less rubbing and a lower risk of marring the surrounding finish. Tjära should be used after washing but before claying because removing solvent-soluble contamination first prevents the clay from dragging sticky deposits across the paint. Controlled application is essential. Treat individual deposits, allow the formula time to work and use a clean, soft microfibre cloth rather than scrubbing. On vinyl wraps, apply Tjära to the cloth first and keep it away from exposed edges to reduce the risk of solvent reaching the adhesive layer.

Paintwork tar removal

  1. Wash and rinse the vehicle to remove loose dirt.
  2. Park in the shade and make sure the surface is cool.
  3. Locate the individual tar spots requiring treatment.
  4. Spray a small amount of Tjära directly onto the contamination.
  5. Allow approximately 10 to 15 seconds for light deposits.
  6. Allow additional controlled dwell time for stubborn contamination.
  7. Gently wipe the softened residue away with a clean microfibre cloth.
  8. Repeat the treatment if contamination remains.
  9. Wash or rinse the treated panel thoroughly.

Glue and adhesive removal

  1. Remove as much loose sticker or adhesive material as possible.
  2. Apply Tjära to a clean microfibre cloth.
  3. Hold the dampened cloth against the residue briefly.
  4. Allow the solvent to soften the adhesive.
  5. Wipe gently without aggressive rubbing.
  6. Turn the cloth regularly to avoid spreading dissolved adhesive.
  7. Repeat with a clean section of the cloth if required.
  8. Clean the treated surface thoroughly afterwards.

Top Tip: Remove tar and adhesive before using a clay bar so sticky contamination is not dragged across the paintwork during mechanical decontamination.
