At 1500 grit, this sheet is ideal for removing dust nibs, blending repair areas, and refining clear coats before machine polishing. Its uniform abrasive structure gives an even cut with fewer deep scratches, which suits bodyshops, paint correction specialists and detailers.

Technical Features:

  • Grit Level: 1500, ultra-fine sanding for pre-polishing preparation
  • Sheet Size: Standard 230mm × 280mm (cut to size as required)
  • Waterproof Backing: Allows safe wet sanding to reduce heat and clogging
  • Consistent Grain Structure: Ensures predictable and even sanding results
  • Durability: Tear-resistant construction with flexible backing for curves and contours
  • Versatility: Safe on automotive paint, plastics, fillers and composites

Benefits:

  • Produces a refined finish ready for polishing or compounding
  • Removes light defects without deep scratching
  • Reduces polishing time by leaving minimal sanding marks
  • Flexible sheet adapts to complex body lines and edges
  • Suits detailing studio and bodyshop work

HQ Suggests (Tips & Insights)

  • 💡 Soak the sanding sheet in clean water for 10-15 minutes before use to improve flexibility and cutting performance.
  • 💡 Always use lubrication (water with a drop of car shampoo works well) to minimise clogging and extend the life of the sheet.
  • 💡 Wrap the sheet around a soft sanding block for even pressure, avoiding uneven sanding marks.
  • 💡 Work gently and check the surface frequently, 1500 grit removes material faster than expected if pressure is too heavy.
  • 💡 Follow up with 2000-3000 grit sanding or a polishing compound to refine the finish.

Expert Notes

The Colad Waterproof Sanding Sheet P1500 is one 230 x 280mm sheet of black latex waterproof paper with closed silicon carbide grain, designed for wet sanding of all paints. P1500 sits in the middle of a wet sanding sequence: it removes dust nibs, small inclusions and orange peel texture, blends repair areas and smooths primer and filler, while leaving finer marks than P1000. It suits bodyshop painters and experienced detailers who work from paint depth readings. Keep it soaked and lubricated, use a soft sanding block and light pressure, then refine with P2000 or P3000 or go to a polishing compound. Pair it with a paint depth gauge, a spray bottle, microfibre towels and polishing pads.

Perfect For / Suitable Surfaces

  • Automotive clear coat
  • Refinished panels
  • Blended repair areas
  • Primer and filler layers
  • Dust nibs and small inclusions
  • Orange peel texture
  • Plastic and composite parts

Caution: P1500 still removes clear coat. Check paint thickness first, sand only the defect, and avoid edges, body lines and panels with thin or unknown paint.

How To Use

Using it

  1. Clean the panel thoroughly and take paint thickness readings before sanding.
  2. Soak the sheet in clean water for 10 to 15 minutes to soften the backing.
  3. Cut a piece to fit a soft sanding block and wrap it tightly.
  4. Mix a drop of car shampoo into a bucket of clean water as the lubricant.
  5. Sand with gentle pressure in straight, overlapping passes, keeping everything wet.
  6. Check the surface often, as heavy pressure removes material more quickly than expected.
  7. Follow with P2000 or P3000, or move on to a polishing compound.

Cleaning and storage

  1. Rinse the sheet regularly during use to clear the sanding slurry.
  2. Rinse the panel and dry it with a clean microfibre towel before polishing.
  3. Discard the sheet once it stops cutting evenly.
  4. Dry part-used pieces flat before storing them.
  5. Keep sheets flat, dry and away from heat until needed.

Top Tip: Sand at a slight angle to the previous grit's scratches so any that remain are easy to spot.

Performance Benefits

  • Refines paint before machine polishing
  • Clears dust nibs and orange peel texture
  • Very smooth finish with fewer scratches
  • Smooths primer and filler layers
  • Blends repair areas into surrounding paint
  • Leaves minimal marks for quicker polishing

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the P1500 sheet?

The Colad Waterproof Sanding Sheet P1500 is a single sheet measuring 230 x 280mm. Cut it down to suit your sanding block.

What is P1500 grit used for?

P1500 is used for final refinement before polishing: removing dust nibs, small inclusions and orange peel texture, blending repair areas and smoothing primer and filler. It leaves finer marks than P1000.

What is the sheet made from?

Colad uses closed-coat silicon carbide grain on specially prepared latex waterproof paper. Colad credits its accurate grain bond system with fewer scratches and very smooth finishing.

Can it be used with water?

Yes, these Colad sheets are designed for wet sanding of all paints. A drop of car shampoo in the water adds lubrication and helps reduce clogging.

What should I use after P1500?

Follow with P2000 or P3000 sanding, or move to a polishing compound, then finish with a polish. Make sure every P1500 mark is removed before the final polish.

Should I soak it before use?

Yes, soak the sheet in clean water for 10 to 15 minutes before sanding. This improves flexibility and gives smoother cutting.

Is it for professional use?

Yes, Colad's technical data sheet says its products are for professional use only and that protective equipment should be worn. Experienced enthusiasts should still measure paint thickness and practise on a test panel first.

Can I buy it from The Drivers HQ?

Yes, The Drivers HQ sells the Colad P1500 waterproof sheet online with UK-wide delivery. You can also visit our walk-in store in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Aqua Dynamic masking tape

Aqua Dynamic is Colad's green crepe masking tape for bodyshops spraying waterborne and 2K paint, and detailers use it to mask trim before machine polishing. It is silicone-free, with a solvent-based rubber adhesive on a waterproof crepe backing, 130 micron thick in total. Colad rates it at 120°C for 10 minutes, 90°C for 30 minutes or 80°C for 60 minutes.

Each roll is 50 metres, in four widths:

  • 19mm: the narrowest, for badges, door handles, washer jets and thin window rubbers, and tight curves.
  • 25mm: the general-purpose size, wide enough for a window rubber or trim strip, narrow enough to follow a wheel arch or light unit.
  • 38mm: covers plastic trim, rubbing strips and panel gaps in one strip when masking a whole car.
  • 50mm: the widest, for bumper inserts, wide arch trims, sills and windscreen surrounds.

Colad waterproof sanding sheets

Colad Waterproof Sheets are latex waterproof paper sheets, 230 x 280mm, for wet or dry sanding of small paint defects before polishing. We sell them as single sheets in four grits:

  • 1000 grit: the coarsest here, for levelling defects and refining the surface.
  • 1500 grit: ultra-fine refinement and defect removal before polishing.
  • 2000 grit: a fine finish before the final polish.
  • 3000 grit: the last step before machine polishing, for clear coat and spot repairs.

How to work. Wet sanding removes clear coat, so go one grit at a time from the finest that removes the defect, use plenty of water with a block or pad to keep the sheet flat, check often, and finish with a compound and polish to bring back the gloss.
