Flexible, long-lasting sheets suitable for both DIY and trade use

HQ Suggests (Tips & Insights)

  • 💡 Always pre-soak the sanding sheet in clean water for 10-15 minutes before use to soften the backing and improve flexibility.
  • 💡 Use a drop of car shampoo in the water as added lubrication, this helps reduce clogging and increases smoothness.
  • 💡 Wrap around a soft sanding block for flat panels, but switch to hand use for intricate curves and edges.
  • 💡 Check your progress often, 2000 grit is aggressive enough to refine defects quickly, so avoid over-sanding.
  • 💡 For the finest finish, follow with 2500-3000 grit sanding before moving to polishing compounds.

Expert Notes

The Colad Waterproof Sanding Sheet P2000 is one 230 x 280mm sheet with closed silicon carbide grain on specially prepared latex waterproof paper, designed for wet sanding of all paints. P2000 is a refining grade: it is used on clear coat to take out dust nibs, runs and light orange peel, and to blend refinished panels, leaving shallow, uniform marks for the polishing stage. Use it on a soft block on flat panels and by hand on curves, always wet and with light pressure. It suits painters and experienced detailers. Pair it with a paint depth gauge, a P3000 sheet, a polishing compound, a finishing polish and clean microfibre towels.

Perfect For / Suitable Surfaces

  • Automotive clear coat
  • Runs and dust inclusions
  • Light orange peel
  • Blended paint repairs
  • Refinished panels
  • Primer and filler
  • Flat and curved panels

Caution: Even at P2000, sanding thins the clear coat. Measure paint depth first and keep well away from edges, swage lines and thin factory paint.

How To Use

Using it

  1. Wash, decontaminate and dry the area, then measure paint depth.
  2. Pre-soak the sheet in clean water for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Wrap a cut piece around a soft sanding block for flat panels.
  4. Use water with a drop of car shampoo as the lubricant.
  5. Sand the defect lightly in straight, overlapping strokes, keeping it wet.
  6. Check progress often, as P2000 refines defects quickly.
  7. Follow with a finer grade such as P3000, then compound and polish.

Cleaning and storage

  1. Rinse the sheet during use so slurry does not clog the grain.
  2. Rinse sanding residue from the panel before you start to polish.
  3. Replace the sheet when it no longer cuts evenly.
  4. Dry used pieces flat and keep them with your other P2000 pieces.
  5. Store unused sheets flat in a clean, dry place.

Top Tip: On curves, hold a small piece flat under your fingers rather than on a block, keeping pressure light and even.

Performance Benefits

  • Removes runs and dust inclusions
  • Reduces time needed at the polishing stage
  • Blends and smooths refinished panels
  • Minimises risk of deep scratches
  • Reduces clogging when used wet

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the P2000 sheet?

It is one 230 x 280mm Colad waterproof sheet, sold singly. Cut it to fit a sanding block or to use by hand on curves.

What is P2000 grit used for?

P2000 is used to refine clear coats and blend paint repairs before polishing, and to remove minor defects such as dust nibs, runs and light orange peel. It leaves shallower marks than P1000 or P1500.

What is it made of?

The Colad sheet uses closed silicon carbide grain on specially prepared latex waterproof paper, in black. Colad says the precision placed grain gives an extremely uniform surface after sanding.

Is it for wet or dry sanding?

It is for wet sanding: Colad designs these waterproof sheets for wet sanding of all paints. Water with a drop of car shampoo lubricates the cut and reduces clogging.

What comes after P2000?

Refine with a finer grade such as P3000, then use a polishing compound and a finishing polish. Remove every P2000 mark before the final polish.

Can I use it on curved panels?

Yes, use it by hand on curved panels and on a soft sanding block on flat areas. Keep pressure light and stay away from edges.

Do I need to soak it first?

Yes, pre-soak the Colad P2000 sheet in clean water for 10 to 15 minutes. This softens the backing and improves flexibility.

Where can I buy the Colad P2000 sheet?

The Drivers HQ sells it online with UK-wide delivery. You can also call into our walk-in store in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

HQ Suggests Tips & Insights

  1. Measure paint depth before sanding and after each stage.
  2. Give the sheet a 10 to 15 minute soak before the first pass.
  3. Use a soft block on flat panels and hand pressure on curves.
  4. Mask nearby edges and swage lines with tape before sanding.
  5. Keep strokes straight and overlapping for an even pattern.
  6. Dry the area with microfibre to judge progress accurately.
  7. Keep P2000 pieces apart from coarser grits to avoid deep scratches.

Aqua Dynamic masking tape

Aqua Dynamic is Colad's green crepe masking tape for bodyshops spraying waterborne and 2K paint, and detailers use it to mask trim before machine polishing. It is silicone-free, with a solvent-based rubber adhesive on a waterproof crepe backing, 130 micron thick in total. Colad rates it at 120°C for 10 minutes, 90°C for 30 minutes or 80°C for 60 minutes.

Each roll is 50 metres, in four widths:

  • 19mm: the narrowest, for badges, door handles, washer jets and thin window rubbers, and tight curves.
  • 25mm: the general-purpose size, wide enough for a window rubber or trim strip, narrow enough to follow a wheel arch or light unit.
  • 38mm: covers plastic trim, rubbing strips and panel gaps in one strip when masking a whole car.
  • 50mm: the widest, for bumper inserts, wide arch trims, sills and windscreen surrounds.

Colad waterproof sanding sheets

Colad Waterproof Sheets are latex waterproof paper sheets, 230 x 280mm, for wet or dry sanding of small paint defects before polishing. We sell them as single sheets in four grits:

  • 1000 grit: the coarsest here, for levelling defects and refining the surface.
  • 1500 grit: ultra-fine refinement and defect removal before polishing.
  • 2000 grit: a fine finish before the final polish.
  • 3000 grit: the last step before machine polishing, for clear coat and spot repairs.

How to work. Wet sanding removes clear coat, so go one grit at a time from the finest that removes the defect, use plenty of water with a block or pad to keep the sheet flat, check often, and finish with a compound and polish to bring back the gloss.
