This is the 19mm roll of Colad Aqua Dynamic Masking Tape, the narrowest of the four widths, with 50 metres on the roll. Narrow tape follows a tight curve more easily than a wide one, so this is the roll for badges, door handles, washer jets and thin window rubbers, where a wider tape would cover paint you want to polish.

  • Narrow 19mm width on a 50m roll
  • Masks trims and rubber before polishing
  • Saturated, waterproof green crepe paper
  • Silicone-free rubber solvent based adhesive
  • Heat resistant to 120°C for 10 minutes
  • Excellent adhesion to rubber and metal
  • Removes easily without leaving residue
  • Designed for water-based and 2K paint systems

Full Description

This is the 19mm roll of Colad Aqua Dynamic Masking Tape, the narrowest of the four widths, with 50 metres on the roll. Narrow tape follows a tight curve more easily than a wide one, so this is the roll for badges, door handles, washer jets and thin window rubbers, where a wider tape would cover paint you want to polish.

Colad makes Aqua Dynamic for body shops that spray water-based paint, so the green crepe paper is saturated and waterproof. In detailing it is used to mask rubber seals and plastic trim before polishing by hand or machine, and to separate one panel from the next. The rubber adhesive grips steel, rubber and plastic and is made to peel off without leaving residue.

Other widths: 25mm x 50m, 38mm x 50m and 50mm x 50m.

The Drivers HQ

Expert Notes

Colad Aqua Dynamic Masking Tape 19mm x 50m is a green, saturated crepe paper tape with a silicone-free, rubber solvent based adhesive. In a detailing routine it goes on after washing and decontamination, masking rubber seals, window rubbers, badges and slim plastic trims before hand or machine polishing, and it can mark out panel sections for test spots. The 19mm width suits narrow edges where a wider roll would overlap the paint being worked on. Colad rates it at 120°C for 10 minutes, 90°C for 30 minutes and 80°C for 60 minutes, and designs it for professional users working with water-based and 2K paint systems. Pair it with polishing pads, compounds and clean microfibre towels.

Perfect For / Suitable Surfaces

  • Window rubbers and seals
  • Slim plastic trims
  • Badges and emblems
  • Door handles
  • Chrome and metal strips
  • Panel edges and gaps
  • Test section lines

Caution: Colad's heat rating drops as exposure lengthens, from 120°C for 10 minutes to 80°C for 60 minutes, so remove the tape promptly and test on fresh paintwork first.

How To Use

Using it

  1. Wash and dry the vehicle so the tape goes onto clean, dust-free surfaces.
  2. Pick out the rubber seals, badges and slim trims that sit next to the paint being polished.
  3. Lay the 19mm tape along each edge, keeping it tight to the panel line.
  4. Run a fingertip firmly along the tape so the edge is fully pressed down.
  5. Polish up to the tape, keeping the pad edge from riding onto it.
  6. Peel the tape back slowly on itself at a low angle once the section is finished.

Cleaning and storage

  1. Remove all tape as soon as polishing or painting is finished rather than leaving it on.
  2. Wipe polish dust from the edges you masked with a clean microfibre towel.
  3. Throw used tape away, as reapplied tape can carry dust and polish residue.
  4. Keep the roll in a sealed bag or box so its edges stay free of dust.
  5. Store rolls in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight.

Top Tip: Lay the tape down without stretching it, as stretched crepe tape tends to pull back and lift at the ends.

Performance Benefits

  • Peels away cleanly after the job
  • Holds firmly on rubber and metal
  • Applies with a sharp, clean edge
  • Marks out panels into test sections
  • Suits hand and machine polishing
  • Suits water-based and 2K refinishing

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is this roll?

This roll of Colad Aqua Dynamic Masking Tape is 19mm wide and 50m long. Colad makes the same tape in 19mm, 25mm, 38mm and 50mm widths, all on 50m rolls.

What is 19mm masking tape used for in detailing?

It is used to mask trims and rubber before polishing by hand or machine, and to separate panels into sections. The narrow 19mm width suits slim seals, window rubbers and badges.

How heat resistant is this tape?

Colad rates Aqua Dynamic Masking Tape for 10 minutes at 120°C, 30 minutes at 90°C and 60 minutes at 80°C. Remove it promptly after any heat exposure.

Is it waterproof?

Yes, the tape uses a saturated, waterproof green crepe paper backing. Colad states this makes it suitable for water-based paint systems.

Will it leave residue on trim or paint?

No, Colad states the tape can be removed easily and without residue. As with any masking tape, remove it promptly and peel it back slowly at a low angle.

What surfaces does it stick to?

Colad lists steel, rubber and plastic as application surfaces and states excellent adhesion to both rubber and metal. Apply it to clean, dry surfaces for a secure hold.

Is the adhesive silicone free?

Yes, Colad describes the adhesive as rubber solvent based and absolutely free of silicones. Silicone contamination can cause defects in fresh paint, so silicone-free masking is preferred for refinishing.

Can it be used for spray painting?

Yes, Colad designed Aqua Dynamic Masking Tape for professional users and water-based paint systems, and describes it as suitable where waterborne or 2K systems are used.

Aqua Dynamic masking tape

Aqua Dynamic is Colad's green crepe masking tape for bodyshops spraying waterborne and 2K paint, and detailers use it to mask trim before machine polishing. It is silicone-free, with a solvent-based rubber adhesive on a waterproof crepe backing, 130 micron thick in total. Colad rates it at 120°C for 10 minutes, 90°C for 30 minutes or 80°C for 60 minutes.

Each roll is 50 metres, in four widths:

  • 19mm: the narrowest, for badges, door handles, washer jets and thin window rubbers, and tight curves.
  • 25mm: the general-purpose size, wide enough for a window rubber or trim strip, narrow enough to follow a wheel arch or light unit.
  • 38mm: covers plastic trim, rubbing strips and panel gaps in one strip when masking a whole car.
  • 50mm: the widest, for bumper inserts, wide arch trims, sills and windscreen surrounds.

Colad waterproof sanding sheets

Colad Waterproof Sheets are latex waterproof paper sheets, 230 x 280mm, for wet or dry sanding of small paint defects before polishing. We sell them as single sheets in four grits:

  • 1000 grit: the coarsest here, for levelling defects and refining the surface.
  • 1500 grit: ultra-fine refinement and defect removal before polishing.
  • 2000 grit: a fine finish before the final polish.
  • 3000 grit: the last step before machine polishing, for clear coat and spot repairs.

How to work. Wet sanding removes clear coat, so go one grit at a time from the finest that removes the defect, use plenty of water with a block or pad to keep the sheet flat, check often, and finish with a compound and polish to bring back the gloss.
