Smart Solutions for Paint Application

Colad says it works together with the paint processing industry to create smart and technical solutions for paint application. In its own words, paint professionals and the quality of their work take centre stage, and the brand aims to protect, improve and beautify with a focus on perfection, supporting professionals to reach their highest potential.

Colad is one of three specialist brands within EMM International, a company headquartered in the Netherlands that develops allied products for paint professionals. EMM says its products are designed for and with professionals in the field, and that it develops and tests smart technologies with dedicated research and development and a 450 m² training centre. Its brands serve automotive refinish, OEM, marine, aviation and decorative markets.

EMM International and its brands are part of PPG, the paints and coatings company. Within PPG, EMM provides the allied products that support every step of the practical application process in the workshop, from surface preparation to finishing. Colad adds that its research and development never stops and that its products are tested extensively before they are brought onto the market.

About Colad

Colad is a brand of products for paint professionals, with tools for masking, painting and protection as well as sanding, mixing and paint processing. It is one of three specialist brands within EMM International, alongside Finixa and Hamach, which EMM distributes from Zwolle in the Netherlands and its global branches. EMM and its brands are part of PPG, and Colad says it works with the paint processing industry to create smart and technical solutions for paint application, with paint professionals and the quality of their work at the centre.

The Drivers HQ stocks two Colad product lines for paint and bodywork preparation. Aqua Dynamic Masking Tape comes in 19mm, 25mm, 38mm and 50mm widths, each on a 50m roll, so you can match the tape to the edge, trim or panel you are masking. Colad Waterproof Sanding Sheets are sold here as single sheets in 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 grit, giving a step by step choice of wet sanding grades for refining a painted surface before it is polished.

Colad designs its products for paint professionals, and the tape and sheets stocked here also suit enthusiasts carrying out touch ups, small repairs or careful correction work at home. Masking tape protects trim, rubbers and neighbouring panels while you sand, spray or polish, and a clean tape edge gives a neater finished line. Waterproof sheets are used wet to level small paint defects, working from a coarser grit to a finer one before a compound and polish bring back the gloss.

Masking Tape and Wet Sanding Sheets

Aqua Dynamic Masking Tape is designed for professional users and for jobs where waterborne or 2K paint systems are used. Colad describes it as a waterproof green crepe paper tape with temperature resistance of up to 120 degrees for 10 minutes, a sharp and clean edge for precise application and strong adhesion to both rubber and metal. The brand also says the tape can be removed easily and without residue.

Colad Waterproof Sheets are made from specially prepared latex waterproof paper and are designed for wet sanding of all paints. The brand says they remove scratches from the painted surface, which can then be polished to a high gloss finish, that precision placed grain gives an extremely uniform surface, and that an accurate grain bond system means fewer scratches. Colad supplies them in 230 x 280 mm sheets, 50 to a sleeve, in grades from P600 to P3000, while The Drivers HQ sells single sheets.

The Drivers HQ stocks the tape in four widths, from 19mm for fine edges and trim to 50mm for covering larger areas, and the sheets in 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 grit. Working through the grits in order and keeping the sheet and surface wet lets each stage remove the marks left by the one before, ready for machine or hand polishing.
