  2. Complete the heavy cutting stage with a firmer cutting pad and compound first.
  3. Centre the pad on a backing plate that suits a 5.5in pad.
  4. Prime the face with a few small dots of a finishing polish.
  5. Work one small section at a time with slow, overlapping passes and steady pressure.
  6. Wipe away residue with clean microfibre and inspect the paint under good light.
